Shooting 500 magnum without compensator

I was wondering if I could remove compensator from 500 magnum 4" model and shoot it that way, is it going to cause any damage to the gun? I could not find anywhere compensator without ports and removing it is the only option. The best thing would be if someone could sell me none ported compensator. Not sure why S&W would not make one. I'm ok with extra recoil that it is going to have. I shot 700 grain hot load and was not too bad, mostly I shoot 330 grain so it is not a big deal.

Get a gun smith to cut it down to 3" and reattach the front sight. Lose the comp and comp mount all together.

Or, buy the John Ross 500, which is designed from the get-go without the comp.

I would rather not change the design. I like the looks of it and proportions. To answer why I want to do it: several reasons but main reason is I don't want hot gases coming from sides and back at me. I shoot lead bullets and that means lead residue is directed towards me instead of away from me.

Amen to that. I HATE the 'spit back.'

Your gun should have a compensator made for lead bullets that blocks the holes in the top of the barrel next to the front sight and directs the muzzle blast to the sides. I use mine a lot and it works well. It also keeps the holes from getting clogged up with lead.

I know it comes with lead comp but I shoot loads that are close to max and there is a lot of blow back. I don't like breathing all that lead dust. I tried shooting just several rounds with comp removed and it was perfect, actually there was no muzzle flash even though powder was H110. As soon as I put it back huge muzzle flash was back again.

Someone CAN sell you a non-ported compensator! It's not hard at all to throw a bar of stainless in the lathe and turn out a compensator with no holes in it!
From what you have stated, and your responses to replies it seems you're set on a compensator that does not vent gases....anything is possible, it's only a question of money.

As for whether it will "hurt" the gun to fire it with the compenstaor removed...absolutely not. If you're okay with the nose looking torn out, the gun could care less. Recoil - or your "subjective" interpretation of recoil will be the result of bullet weight chosen and velocity. If you choose to shoot excessively heavy slugs - above 500 grains, even at the pedestrian speeds of a 3" barrel you WILL receive significant kick, but you will receive and equal "kick" if you have the compensator mounted because slow slugs do nothing to enhance compensator function. In order to derive "benefit" from your barrel-mounted compensator you need a fast moving slug with some FAST moving gases jetting through the compensator BEFORE the gun responds to the insult....300-400 grains is probably ideal, but pushed FAST with a medium-to-slow burning powder.

Great, how much would it be to get compensator made from stainless steel and who would make it?

There was a member here a year or so that was making and selling the non compensated inserts. I bought one and love it.

Do a search on the 500 compensator and you may find him. If I can find the link I will post it.

Shorting the barrel on any X-frame revolver is going to change the effective twist rate of the gun.
Additionally the barrel assemble consists of a barrel, shroud and tensioning nut.

You can't just cut them down.

I was hoping S&W would make new 500 magnum revolver with 4" barrel without compensator for this Shot show 2014 but looks like nothing new for 500 Magnum. In my opinion it is the best round to shoot, certainly the most fun gun to shoot and if you reload not too expensive aether. I quit shooting my 1911 since I got 500 magnum lol.
