In the garage no less? Back when I had a basement I did such things, but today with neighborhoods the way they are, I usually head to the range. But those Aguila's are definitely as quiet as my pellet gun, and more accurate as well.
I like your son's choice of caliber, but may balk at the light weight of the frame. My 44 is a big old single action Virginian Dragoon--must weigh 20 pounds! I don't feel a thing... I've looked pretty hard at a 500 like yours to back up for hunting, but still a little pricy. I was actually serious--I keep an eye on the auctions sites for one to go at a price that I like. I have an active bid on one right now.
I just got back from the range a few days ago shooting my 1917 with standard .45 ACPs to re-qual for my CCW license. I'd normally just shoot one of my single actions in .45 Colt, but for some reason the instructor didn't allow single actions. No problem, my 1917 shoots great! Toughest part is picking the brass out of the half-moon clips. Mine is just a shooter at this point in it's life--some previous owner took a file to the sights... While today I wish that hadn't happened, if it was a soldier and it made him shoot better, so be it.
