I have a buddy selling his sigma 9mm. It's had 100 rds through it and looks to be in great shape! It comes with the case, 1 16rd mag, and a holster. He's asking $300. Is that a good price? From what I've been seeing, $275 is about the fair market value. What do you all think?

A new one will put u back around 313 if you can find one. My personally opinion 200 - 235 would be fair. That would be my max price I pay for a used one.

The sigma's where kinda low end pistols to start with nothing fancy entry level at best kinda guns. I would pass in general and look for something else.

Might wanna look at a M&P pistol which is a nicer version of the entry level Sigma.

Well Im not looking for a high end pistol. It's more for just shooting around and home defense than anything.

The newer model (SD VE - 9 or 40 cal) is going for $299 with two high capacity mags out of the box at Academy Sports. Great deal and an excellent weapon.

It's a difficult call for a couple of reasons:

New sigmas (and now SDVEs) sell for @ 300 new with 2 mags. Sigmas have always had a low resale value. He only has one magazine which further deflates the value. However, the unknown here is the holster??? Is it a valuable one? Assuming the gun is in excellent shape (with one mag), the gun would probably draw $200 in resale. Unless that holster were gold plated or something, I'd offer $225, maybe a few dollars more. If you can get your hands on a new SD for $300, I'd go that route.

Again, the value of that holster is the wild card here.

All that said, I have always said that the sigma was the best $300 I ever spent. Perfect performance and splendid ergos.

I'm with leejack here.

For $300 I'd rather have a new sdve than a used swve with 1 mag.

I would buy a new SD9VE. But,if you want to avoid all the extras, tax, call in,waiting period, buy the Sigma. Offer him $250. All he can say is no.

What about the warranty? Does it go with changing hands?

I like to buy new if I can and for his price I'd go for new.

Well that's the problem. I would without a doubt buy new, but I'm only 20 so I have to buy from an individual.

Again, I say buy new if you can... regardless of the holster you get a new, out of the box SD9VE (or SD40VE) with the lifetime warranty from S&W and TWO high capacity mags.

Buying an extra mag alone would cost you as much as buying a really good ITW holster so I don't think you can wrong with finding the local Academy Sports an Outdoor and getting it there.

My experience with that place was awesome. They ran my background check, processed the gun and had me out the door with it along with 300 rounds of ammo and a fobus otw holster for just under $400 total.

It's a $200.00 gun at best. It was a weak attempt for S&W to be competitive. It is not the gun you want to stake your life on.

I agree with sodacan. Wouldn't stake my life on it.

"Works every time" how? Hom many rounds per session? How often not cleaned? How many classes? How many users? (Even quality made guns have some lemons).

When i see people using them hard in 2-3 day classes, running several thousand rounds without cleaning and not having problems then i'll take a look at one. Until then they are a step up from Taurus, Keltec, Dimondback, Highpoint .....etc .....etc

Wait... what?

I have just over 400 rounds through my SD9VE without an issue. No fail to feed or fire and it eats every type of ammo I have put through it.

Did I buy this weapon because it was within my budget? Yes... but I also believe after the amount of ammo it has through it and the accuracy of the gun, I would put this weapon up against any regarding the action of pure self defense. It goes bang every time. I promise that no one will want to break in my house or kick my door to try and find out if this weapon will save my life. Just a thought. ;)

Mine has never had a hickup. Many users here have stated the same thing, runs like a Timex or Eveready bunny.

Just because the gun was entry level priced, doesn't mean it doesn't work great.

Of course all type guns have occasional problems.

Ok. The guy also has a XD .45 he's wanting to sell. Comes with everything it came with from the factory plus 20 hollow points, with 2-300 rds put through it. He's asking $475 for it. But I think a .45 is a bit too big for what I'll be using it for.

I would double check to make sure its legal for you to own in your area. The last thing you wanna do is commit a felony. I do believe where I live its 18/21 for rifles/handguns

The important thing is that you get what you want, what you like and what fits your needs and budget. I don't know how long you have been around this game, but the sigma was born under a dark cloud and will always get bashed, even though the user reviews have been quite good in the last few years, since the VE model mostly. The SD will shake "some" of that bad rep, but it will never go away completely.

The XD45 is a great gun and will give you status that the sigma won't, if you want it, go for it! Eats those expensive fat bullets too! LOL!

Get the gun that you like. My testimony of the sigma is based on the good luck I had with it.

No sir I know it is 18 to own. Just 21 to buy new/from a dealer.
