Should we refer to our rifle as an AR 15-22 or ...

Because in "legitimate" topics when the answer is there, there isn't anything to add to it, so it eventually falls off the page.

For what it's worth, I call mine "Floydd Pinstripe." (That's also the psudonym I use on write-in voting ballots for local Sheriff...)

But, it's made out of plastic. Even my old Tonka Truck has more metal in it than my 15-22, how can it be called an assault rifle.

Makes no difference what a firearm is made of. It's the features that make the determination.

That's what makes me angry. These anti-gun groups know nothing about firearms. But they go preaching about guns are evil. The assualt weapon ban has no evidence that it reduced gun crime. Mayor Bloomberg especially pissed me off with his anti-gun rhetoric. When I was in college as a finance major, I had a lot respect for his work in the Finance industry. But his constant yapping about gun control has my blood boiling.

I'm so glad I live in a state that doesn't have these stupid gun laws.

I especially enjoy going to the range with my friends. You meet the nicest people at ranges. Just last week I met a gentleman who was zeroing in his Ruger Redhawk with a Leupold scope. I let him use my spotting scope to help him zero it in at 100 yards. In return he let me and my friend shoot the Redhawk multiple times.

Even FA isn't automatically an assault weapon. I know it is extreme but look at the Phalanx CIWS. It is stupidly full auto and it is a defensive weapon.

Heck the Dutch have a version that uses the 30mm Avenger cannon from the A-10, pretty much the definitive assault plane, and they use the cannon defensively.

It is what you DO with it, not what you attach to it. Back pre WWII a bolt action rifle was the "assault weapon" of choice.

IIRC - according to the NRA - the term "Assault Weapon" is a government made up name. That way, it can be what they choose it to be.

I suppose then, Cain used an "Assault Weapon" to kill his brother Able.

"Assault WEAPON" is a made up term created specifically for the "Assault Weapons Ban" to categorize firearms that had specific features which the writers of the bill deemed scary and supposedly MORE dangerous than "regular" weapons.

It is a redundant term since any object used during an assault is an assault weapon.
