Show Me Some 2 1/2"-3" MOD66s & 686s

Now you all got me thinking.. What's the difference between a 66 & a 686??
I'm realy interested in a 66-5
I'm sure it has MIM parts?
Thanks & keep those great lookin pics comin!!
SWEET!!

HEADKNOCKER...My 66-4 has MIM parts, so I'm sure a -5 would also have them. I'm always on the lookout for a -2, but I think this will do for now.

Found a 66-4 (SN BPY73XX) 3" in decent condition at a recent gun show with rubber pach's and no box. Seller wanted $450 firm and would not budge. I offered $400 and I'm having second thoughts about leaving the pistol at the show and my $ in my pocket;( Oh well, you can't buy them all...

I keep forgetting to do some creative photog work with this 686 no dash 3 inch CS-1.

Head...a 66 is a K frame and a 686 is a L frame. That's the diff.

I Learn Something Everyday!!
MOD66 = K Frame
MOD686 = L Frame

I have a Set Of Pachmayr K/L Frame Round Butt Compacts Grips in my stash just like Dennis Adams Pic that can't wait to be put on a Revolver for Carry..
A 66/686 in 2 1/2"-3" could fit the bill..
Gotta Give Myself a Reason To Get Another & Those Lonely Grips are it!!!
Enjoy & Thanks For The Great Pics To Savor..

Also can Anyone set me up with some more info
What was changed on the 66s with the -1, -2 etc
Why would one be more wanted than another?
The One I've been lookin at is a MOD66 NO DASH 2 1/2" Pinned barrel & I believe recesed cylinders.. I could be wrong about the cylinder but I've looked this piece 3-4 times @ recent gunshows, The dealer wants far too much, But Yet It still talks to me..WHY??
He Wants my SIG...
THANKS!!

Headknocker:

66 and 66-1 are P&R

66-1 moved the gas ring along the cylinder axis since it was causing problems with long strings of fire. As the gun heated up, it would bind the cylinder. If you aren't doing a lot of shooting, I wouldn't worry about it.

Can I play too?

Here's a couple pics of my 2.5" 66-no dash. It was sent back to S&W a few years ago to be fitted with a smooth surfaced trigger.

HK, they both shoot well, the -3 is tight like a vault at lock up, kind of an odd ball with S&W. The -1 is pinned and recessed.

So I put the -1 in the bedroom, as a collector/house gun and use the -3 sometimes as a carry gun besides hiding in the house.

The -1 is my favorite by a nose.

With the lasers, they are 1 hole accurate at 7 yards. 357's don't hurt to shoot with the stocks, just reloading is harder with the short ejector rods.

Thanks For The Replies..
I realy Like the looks Of Cock&Locked's 66 No dash with The wide smooth trigger, Plus it's Pinned & Recessed & I have those very same Pachmayrs Compacts in my Gun stash..
C&L What Did it cost you to have the Smooth Trigger installed by S&W?
