Head...a 66 is a K frame and a 686 is a L frame. That's the diff.

Also,the 686 has a full lug.Any exceptions to this rule?

I realy Like the looks Of Cock&Locked's 66 No dash with The wide smooth trigger, Plus it's Pinned & Recessed & I have those very same Pachmayrs Compacts in my Gun stash..

Thanks Gary! It cost $123.20 total including return to replace the red front sight insert, rear sight blade and screw, and the trigger. All removed parts were returned. That was in 2003.

I posted my 3" 686-5 Plus on this thread in January. It is, in fact the only stainless Smith I own and has served me well for years as a truck gun.

I have 2.5" Combat Magnums out the wazoo but they are all blued and nickeled Model 19s.

Lots of gorgeous 66s here though and I'm starting to rethink my stance on stainless guns...gonna have to add some of those 66s to the K Frame family.

Yeah, I've noticed the prices creeping northward lately. On 66s and 19s specifically.

I turned down a Model 66 2.5" at $365 a couple of months ago at a gun show...I had offered $360...WHAT AN IDIOT!! I let that gun walk for $5......Well, it's not the first deal I've missed at a gun show and probably won't be the last.
