I do not support pro/college (SSDD) sports to any extent. A silly waste of time and fiscally irresponsible on the part of those who go to games, etc. Ray Rice is at best a filthy pile of excrement. An attack like that would easily qualify as a felony here, and in fact would be a strike (as in "3 strikes case"). I'd have to double check the case law on causing unconsciousness as great bodily harm, but I suspect it would an assault 1, which has a pretty stout sentencing range, for good reasons. The conduct of the prosecutors in NJ is shameful.
That said: it's his job. He is not a role model, or anything else of that nature, no matter what the league and its lackwit fans and "leaders" say. I do not think any real connection can or should be drawn between that behavior and his ability to play, at least not until he is sentenced to prison where he belongs. As much as I have no respect for the NFL, this is a non-issue.

I still like it, especially the college game, vastly more than I do professional basketball. Talk about a thug culture!

Sounds like me, I even hosted a small Super Bowl party once, primarily to watch the commercials and spend time with family.
My dad is a sports nuts but I am not really into sports at all.
I just shake my head when we as a society rewards athletes or actors or musicians with millions of dollars and celebrity status and gun act surprised when they behave in ways that demonstrate their utter do on disconnect with reality.

The Anti's have similar opinions about certain things in this country and like to group everyone into one category, not a good idea.
I say weed out and ban the bad guys from whatever sporting group they belong to and leave the good guys alone.

I believe there was a time in the not-to-distant pass that every pro athlete promoted and relished the idea of being a roll model for our youth. Now most seem to be nothing more than self-serving, street thugs who have a God-given talent, but absolutely no idea of civility, humility or pride.
It disgusts me to no end. I follow, but have been revolted by most pro sports for quite some time. Now this savage behavior has made it's way into many college sports. I dare say that in 5 years I will have reverted to only watching high school sports as everything beyond has been corrupted down to the lowest level of society.

The more I read these comments the more ticked I get. I understand people not liking sports figures getting better treatment in the legal system but to want to start banning or shutting down? Sounds to me like some still ticked about being picked last for kick ball in school and still hold a grudge towards athletes. Be mad with individuals actions and don't judge as a whole, especially from a gun forum you would think people wouldn't act like that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but if someone was preaching to ban all guns because of a couple knuckleheads some of you would act differently. I could keep going but I think I've proved my point.
I gave up on professional football 25 or 30 years ago. Nothing but a bunch of over paid prima donnas, Thugs, wife beaters and ne're do wells in general.

These guys are football players, remember those guys in high school? College? Remember those guys? It comes as a mild suprise to me that we don't hear more about some of these overgrown children throwing their weight around. Grow up NFL and start enforcing the intentional grounding rule or I'm through for sure this season.

I say NFL get out of these thugs' lives and put law enforcement in. Other than for jobs that involve children or the nation's secrets, the only time that an employer should remotely hear about your interactions with law enforcement is when you can't make bail in time and miss work. IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS IF IT HAPPENS OUTSIDE WORK.
These are assaults, but LE seems afraid of prosecuting "sportsmen/women", actors, politicians. NONE of them are better than the rest of us, so hook 'em all up the same.
