Having just purchased a bunch of model 10s, I noticed that some people in our shooting group are having trouble with the fixed sights. I have one m-10 that has it's sights painted (fluorescent orange on the front and green on the notch) and it actually seems to help a bit. Is there anything else I can do??

Is it possible to mill down the front sight and install a fiber optic sight??

If I have to resort to paint, does anyone have any recommendations as to what paint to use?? Should I remove the blue where the paint will go, or can I simply clean the area with alcohol??

Testor's model paint.. Clean the sight well. Put a base coat of white on it and then their red fluorescent paint.
I have some on a model 58 that I put there in 1966. It's still a little red. If I was going to do some serious shooting, I would repaint it.

If you really want to get sexy, go raid your wife's finger nail polish stash. It will work too.

I've always used nail polish on the front sight with good results. It will probably take two or three coats (more are usually a mistake, because by then you're filling the serrations). Some folks use other stuff, Testor's, I think, and some recommend a white base coat. It is not necessary or desirable to remove bluing.

:) I find if you are shooting indoors or out using
targets with not so much black in them helps.
Using targets with a lot of black background blocks
the light. Try it yourself, take a white sheet of paper
and put a 1 inch black dot on it. There will be more light
light come through on your rear sight. Hope this
helps. Don

Thanks for the input, guys......

Since my wife is kind of a tom-boy (in addition to guns, she also likes her ATV and her snowmobile......) she has no nail polish or other cosmetics. I guess I'll give the Testors a shot.:)

Thanks for the white target advice as well....I just bought a bunch of bowling pins so we'll see how it goes.

I do better with black sights on my model 10 than fluorescent orange on my adjustable sight revolvers. I guess I am just use to the black sight. My old reliable model 10. Best double action revolver I have ever had the pleasure of shooting period. Not fancy just plain simple, reliable and easy for a shooter to learn on.
