Sights

Just a FWIW but for a red dot with irons my first choice would be absolute co-witness with folding sights.

The irons are out of the way (and not obstructing your line of sight or field of view) when folded down and when flipped up you have the same sight line you're accustomed to with the red dot.

Just my 2 cents.

Jessica, I may be missing something here but why don't you get a prescription that corrects your astigmatism so you don't have to worry what the center dot will look like. Works for me.

It's out of your price range but under 100 yds nothing comes close to an Eotech. I moa dot for pinpoint accuracy and the fastest acquisition possible since you shoot with both eyes open.

I do have corrective glasses but I'm still not quite sure how I will see the dot. I have "coke bottle" glasses so we will see how that works tomorrow.

My suggestion would be to remove all sights & just use the red dot. IMO, you don't need to concern yourself with co-witness. This is not a service rifle & you really have no need for backup sights if your optic fails. If it fails, change out the battery or go home to work on it. IMO, the only reason for backup sights on a 15-22, is for those using it as a trainer for their service rifle.

If you are just using the rifle for fun, I suggest keeping it simple. I had Magpul folding sights on my 15-22, but after I realized I never used them, I took them off. A red dot is just too easy to shoot with... especially for those of us with bad eyes. I have Troy folding sights on my AR, however my eyes now are so bad, if there ever was a real need for me to use them, I think I'd be better off using the weapon as a club.

Tomcatt51 and Redneck Jim both have valid points. I only suggested using co-witnessing with your fixed rear sight to see if it made the dot clear for you, like it does for me.

I like to shoot with irons, so I keep them on my .22lr. My son likes the flip ups because of the coolness factor and that's ok too. It keeps him interested and shooting. :D

And I really side with more Redneck Jim in that a red dot and a spare battery makes the most sense. This ain't your service rifle... Folding sights with absolute co-witness if you just can't live without iron sights also.

I'm old and have cataracts and astigmatism and have to be carefull in my choice or red dots. Many don't have very good optics. C-mores (the big one) and Ultra-Dot matchdots both have nice crisp round dots for me. That said I'm looking for a suitable 1 1/2 - 4X scope with crosshairs to put on one of my 15-22s instead of my C-mores with their 12 or 16 minute dots for plinking when they're not being used for competition.

I like FAB Defense Backup Sights RBS & FBS - polymer, very low profile, ambidextrous, Made in Israel not China. Cost about $70 for front and back --- FAB Defense Backup Sights RBS & FBS | 7.62 Precision Custom Firearm Finishes

I love this on my 300 Blackout Command Arms Low Profile Flip Up Sights - CAA-FFS-FRS - Primary Arms

PS: DO not buy P.T.S. Magpul. PTS products are designed for Airsoft.
The FAB Defense looks good and I like the no tool adjustment for the front. The website shows 14 mm as height in their specs which I assume is the folded height. That would just be slightly higher than the Magpul which is just a little less than half an inch. Do you have this sight and can you confirm that height for me? I am weighing my options and since I have a scope on mine, there is very little clearance there. Thanks.

I have a slight astigmatism, but apparently not enough to cause issues with a red dot, at least with contacts, anyway. I actually did not know about the astigmatism issues before buying my Aimpoint, to be honest - so I feel a bit lucky.

I have a T1 Micro on my AR, but recently bought a PA Micro for my 15-22. The PA Micro is a very popular "budget" red dot, but I do have a few issues with it. With all the PA love this might be an unpopular post - and while it's not at all fair to compare it to an Aimpoint at 1/5 the price, there are some noticeable differences. The emitter is very prominent coming from the T1, but I can live with it. The battery cover is the same width as the dial, so I sometime find myself unscrewing the cover as i turn up the brightness. The dot is not as precise (different MOA which is part of it), and the optic is noticeably less clear/bright, esp indoors. The dot blooms much easier/quicker than the T1 as well. Oh and the QD mount is absolute ****. The packaging was a bit iffy - just loosely rolled in some bubblewrap in a box, vs custom molded foam for the Aimpoint.

As stated, not fair to compare it to the Aimpoint Micro, but I see threads where people claim the PA Micro is 90% of the Aimpoint at 20% of the price, but I just don't agree. If you've never used an Aimpoint, then most of what I listed above probably wouldn't be noticeable. It's a nice value unit, and a solid choice over some of the cheapo brands listed earlier in thread for sure. I will say I used an UTG Red/Green dot for a bit and found it to be just as nice as the PA unit, if not nicer. It's just a larger unit and I wanted the smaller unit similar to the H1/T1 form factor - otherwise I would just leave the UTG on my 15-22.

78Staff is right. The dingy blue green glass (reflective coating) of the PA and other dime store reflex optics is what it is. The pic Cypher posted above is an example though a bit exaggerated. My Aimpoint H1 has a slight tint though not as dark as my PA. I recently posted comparative pics of an Aimpoint H1 vs EOTech. If clear glass is an imperative then EOTech is the way to go- crystal clear. When shooting I'm usually wearing my sunglasses anyway.

I think it is between the Bushnell red dot vs. Primary Arms micro dot w/Magpul MBUS sights. Are there any negatives of the Bushnell and Primary Arms micro dot?

How big of a riser for the Bushnell?

I have both
The PA micro is much better sight
The Bushnell is junk
PA has a new Red Dot that's on par with Aimpoints micro, 2mil dot, 50,000 hrs battery life, lifetime warranty, it comes with the mount you need
https://www.primaryarms.com/Holosun-Paralow-HS403-Parallax-Free-Red-Dot-p/hs403.htm

IMO I'd skip the back up sights on a fun gun:cool:

I have a polarizing filter on the end of that sight... forgot to take it off for the pic. :D

You are in the minority in your opinion of the Bushnell, for what it is. And I would question how you could say that the Holosun being resold by PA is on par with an Aimpoint...

I have the PA MicroDot and a shooting buddy has the Bushnell TRS-25. Other than the tube being just a tad bit smaller on the PA, in use it would be difficult to tell which optic you were using. I would't be surprised if they were made at the same Chinese labor camp.

Bought the Strikefire and I am very pleased with it so far. It does look like grapes but manageable. I plan to put it on after I get a little more experience with the irons and when I figure out what ammo my rifle likes and/or dislikes I'll start the modifications full steam ahead.
