Sights

Oh for a good semi-buckhorn rear sight to replace all the peep sights these guns have. I sight in with the iron sights [A2 front, MBUS rear] and adjust the red dot to sit on top edge of the front sight, and then fold down the rear sight. Peeps are way too slow for any practical shooting. But I'm having a terrible time getting the red dot adjusted. I need to take my lead sled to the range on a still day. I'm just not as steady as I used to be shooting offhand.

You are joking about the peep sights, right? Because of the way the eye works, it naturally centers the front post within the rear ring. You do not need to check the alignment of the front post to the rear sight like you do with buckhorn type sights. Peeps should be much faster than buckhorn style sights.

Definitely not joking. Peeps are much slower than buckhorn style sights IMO. My eye wants to focus on the peep hole and I lose the target. My eye does not naturally center on the front post. Depending upon how I hold my head, the target could be anywhere.

I guess everyone's eyes are different. Do you get your eye as close as possible to the aperture?

It also may come down to what you are more comfortable with. My grandfather was quick with his old 30-30... I might not beat him with first shot on target with my AR. :D
