have an at&t rugby 3 flip phone . from what they tell me , this phone or any other basic phone is no longer available from at&t. mine is starting to act up ... long story . a call to the at&t help line proved to be of no help .
i have unlimited text & talk minutes ( at about $58 a month ) that is all i desire & need !
should i try going to wal mart to obtain the more basic type phone that i desire ? or ? open to suggestions . i worry about the learning curve on a new phone and of course the $ outlay also ! but bottom line i dont need the internet on my phone or countless other things i may never use .
people who are using basic phones like mine would be good to hear from .
i did go to wal mart a few years back , when i was with an other carrier and i had a simple phone somewhat like the one i have now and went with their version of my phone , to save apprx $20 a month . their phone seemed MUCH harder to navigate so i took it back and went back to my old set up . switched carrier shortly after that .
appreciate you knowledge and thanks in advance !

Plane Jane flip phones are getting harder to locate. I will say if you travel much you may not like the AT&T, as they seem to have the worst coverage in rural area's than any other phone. I know about 7 years ago going through Nebraska, So. Dakota, and N. Dakota once you got off an interstate highway you had very little chance of any service. If you don't travel outside your area and are satisfied with the coverage, moot point.

Go to Walmart or straighttalkdotcom and check out their phones, I've been with them since they started and in the beginning had a few glitches but not in the past few years, get yourself a smart phone, they may even have some free ones, unlimited calling/text/data for 50 a month taxes inc. , you'll get used to it plus the gps is very handy and the towers they use are either AT&T or Verizon. They even have a few flip phones if that's what you really want. I also go to my Walmart phone dept if I need to learn something or my 5 year old grandson.

I'm also on GoPhone. It's a prepaid ATT service.
I pay 25 cents a minute, 20 cents a text.
I use a iPhone 5s with the data turned off.
I'm often on wifi hot spots or regular wifi at Minkey D or other.
Like the previous said, go to Walmart or Best Buy and get a GoPhone.

Take a look at Consumer Cellular. I have one of their flippers and it works just fine for talking and a text now and then. About $30 a month

Me and my wife have smart phones. The land line was costing me about $25 a month. And $11 + was every tax you can think of, that included paying for the Spanish American war!
Reason I have a smart phone is I use it as a hot spot for my computer.
$100.00 a month for all that is a bargain to me for both phones and I'm with Cricket.

I have a Tracfone flipper, cost 19.99. Every 90 days I add a $20 top-up fee, I never use more than what's on the last top-up, so the minutes keep accumulating. Never had a coverage issue.

AT&T go-phone(flip type) here. A $25 refill card is good for 3 months, refill with another $25 before the previous 25 expires and everything rolls over. Everyone that knows I have a go-phone only texts me that way the message will be there when I'm driving as I don't talk or text when driving. Every month I buy the 200 messages for $5,phone talk plan is 10cents per minute.everything unused rolls over and since I don't use the phone much. Not unusual for me to have 2000 available messages rolled over and about $5 (unused of the $25) to roll over.
Maybe someday I'll get a smartphone to have GPS,camera, and search.

I have a pretty basic flip phone that I got from AT&T several years ago.
It's a Motorola Tundra, a sturdy mil spec phone. Despite having dropped
it several times, including onto my concrete garage floor I've never had
a bit of trouble with it. I don't know if they're still available but I hope
so in case I manage to break it because I have no desire to "upgrade".

i have a flip and att, samsung rugby it went bad att said they had to order one for more money. i went to fley bay and got another pretty quick then went to att store so they program it for me for free

At $58/mo you're paying a lot for talk and text. We pay that for smartphones including unlimited data.

I don't know who is telling you there are no basic flip phones available but there are plenty.

As far as not needing Internet service on a phone.... Funny... my mom told me the same thing a few years ago. In fact she was adamant about it when I asked her if she wanted an iPhone... said she had no need for it and would not use it, period. I told her I was sending her an iPhone anyway and if she didn't want it to toss it. Several months ago she called me panicked that she couldn't find her iPhone cuz she uses it for everything. ;)

I have Net 10, I buy 1500 min for 100 bucks and it's good for six months and your min carry over, the service is great, you can buy them at Walmart or go to the web site. In the 13 years I've been with them I have never lost my signal.

No offense intended, but using a flip phone today is like using a Commodore C64 computer. Well almost. My Samsung Galaxy 5 lets me text, take pictures (and send them via text), listen to my favorite songs, track my workouts, and contains every bit of vital information I may need, such as my daughter's and my medical history, car vin numbers, even my firearm serial numbers. I can access the internet, do my banking and monitor my financial portfolio. My phone also has Bluetooth capabilities which enables it to interact with my truck. Incoming calls go through my radio, providing me with hands-free calling. This is all on the Android based operating system. Apple has their own system and while they are more limited to customization, they are also easier to learn on, yet provide all the same capabilities. Before you limit yourself to a flip phone, ask yourself if they are so great, why doesn't everyone use them? The answer should be self evident. ;)

Before you say that's beyond your computer prowess, consider that if you take it in small steps, and have access to anyone with a little patience to help when you get stuck, it's really not a steep learning curve and can help you out in so many ways. Generally speaking, wives, son's, daughters or grand kids can
fulfill the role of mentor/teacher, while providing a little extra quality time with said mentor.

One last thing: having all that information is extremely handy, but you should also have a utility to wipe your phone clean should you ever lose it or have it stolen. Some phones already come with that capability.

There are a bunch of secondary cell phone service providers like Cricket that you can try.

Go on ATT website and see if they offer any basic phones.
Here you go
Basic Feature Phones from AT&T

Not much in the way of selection but there are your basic flip phones, touch screens and QWRTY
