I am about to stroke out I'm so pissed

Hate to admit but I've done the same thing. Then I quickly look around to see if anyone heard me and thinks I'm crazy :o
if I was behind you, I'd applaud. I detest machines that talk to me. The ones at my local supermarket add insult to injury by having a condescending voice that sounds like it's addressing a toddler. I never use those.

Here's my solution: If there's a Chat Line, use it instead of a phone call. It completely removes the foreign accent and poor phone connection issues from the process. If you use it in the middle of the night, there's no waiting. Most chat lines also give you the option of saving the whole conversation, giving you a written record of what transpired. This is especially useful if you have to give them equipment serial numbers, etc. I use it exclusively with Directv, and it has significantly reduced the number of dents in my walls caused by flying Directv remote controls.

Back in December a tree fell down at the sportsman's club and knocked down our phone line. I called the phone company, Frontier, on my cell phone and got an Indian lady on the phone. I explained a tree had knocked the line down and we needed it fixed. Her response, with heavy accent, was "Have you tried jiggling your phone connection to see if that resolves your problem?". I just looked at my phone for a minute trying to comprehend that response, and finally replied "Ummmm, no!". After nearly a hour they said a crew would be out in two weeks. They never showed up. Literally a dozen phone calls later, in March, we were informed they would need up to a year to send a crew to put the line back up. We cancelled our phone service. Cell phones and google voice are working just fine as replacements.

Not too long ago I walked in on my wife, who was on the phone with someone. She was saying, "I NEED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH!! I NEED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH!!"

I backed out of the room, and didn't bring it up later.

We went through it with AT&T again tonight. Zero customer service. We had a problem with no service for over a month and dropped them and asked for a refund for the time we were without service. They sent me a credit card for $4.00 while the non service cost me over $60.00. We're still fighting with them on that one. We had Direct TV for over 20 years with no problem until AT&T bought them out and totally screwed up everything...wrong packages, wrong fees. When we called CS we got foreigners who couldn't speak English. They didn't care because they get paid for how long they keep you on the phone. We got rid of them and get what we want for free through the computer. A CS agent would answer in very broken English. In the background you could hear babies crying, chickens, goats, cattle, and even gunshots. The foreigners don't care if they fix your problem or not and it is eventually going to put AT&T and many other companies with foreign CS out of business. I recently read where AT&T has lost millions of customers because of this foolishness and I expect many other companies will suffer the same fate.

I keep getting robo calls from AT&T wanting me to switch to there services. According to a call I made to AT&T, they do not offer phone service to the area in which I live. Go figure!

I once spent 90 min on phone with Verizon Wireless. I don't remember the issue but it was a billing problem. After going through 4 people I couldn't understand and couldn't help me , I finally got connected to a woman in Georgia. She fixed my problem in about 2 min and was pleasant and easy to understand. She was happy to help even a Yankee like me .

We that are old enough to know real customer service, are so shocked by good service that we feel we should pay extra for it. Doesn't everyone really know we are getting the same service from everyone even medical "professionals" and only 1 out of 4 of their mistakes are reported! From my hero Mr. John Wayne, "Alcohol does not solve any problems, but then again, neither does milk".

This level of customer contempt and abuse has been going on a loooong time. If companies wanted to improve it, they could have done it years ago. They have chosen not to. There is a reason, though the possibilities escape my fertile imagination.

My experiences with ATT have been similar to others mentioned here. I too hate them with a passion. Bell South was better. Even the former Bell South employees I've talked to that are now employed by ATT agree that ATT is ****. I hope they go belly up.

My wife went through the same thing with AT&T,can't mention that name around here.

With the millions of unemployed or otherwise looking for a job people in this country I just cannot believe that call centers have to be on the other side of the planet staffed by English as a third fourth or fifth language people that cannot speak plainly.
Another vote for AT&T to disappear from earth.

They work for peanuts.

The reason most US manufacturing moved off shore or at least out of this country.

AI is going to end a lot of this. At least you'll be able to understand the bot you're talking to.

That won't help the employment situation here unless everyone learns to write code.
