Slab sided barrels!

What's the fuss all about?
When shooting, I can't see the barrel anyhow.
Couldn't care less how it looks.
All that matters is how it SHOOTS.

I agree..

Just like so many that feel that any blemish in their guns means it needs to be refinished.

I've had girlfriends that I didn't especially care for their looks..but I sure liked the holla back..;)

Flat sided barrel and unfluted cylinder = cool.

75vette, I want that unsighted 44mag in the center photo in a bad way.

I've yet to meet a S&W revolver I don't like, no matter what the aesthetics. :)

The only one I have that I don't see a picture of already is this 60-15 with Herrett grips and a Galco Stinger holster. Of course, maybe it's been posted in one of the Photobucket ghost pictures. ;)

Grab A Slab

I love the slab barrel, so I traded my full under lug (646) version for the slab sided PC version! This is my favorite revolver of all time!:D

While I to am a fan of the 1911 I don't care for the slab sided revolver barrels. To me a revolver should have a round barrel. In order to get that look you lose weight up front where you need it to help with recoil and muzzle flip, unless you go with a specialized heavy competition barrel. R for revolvers means round to me, just call me old fashioned I guess. With that said if you like them go for it. Varity has been said to be the spice of life.

Actually I prefer the slab sided revolvers!
I can't post pics here anymore due to photobuckets policy change! But I have more slab sided revolvers than I do traditional round barrels!

I used to think the S&W slabside revolvers were really ugly. However, after actually handling a few, I've warmed up to them (quite a bit.) .To the point where I eventually picked up a 627PC,327R8, 686Pro, 686SSR , 686 Competitor, 986Pro and 60Pro.

Beyond the look, I find the ballance "just right" and I really like the interchangeable sight option that tend to come on these models. The 5" flavors have become a particular favorite.

p.s. Now if they would just make a 617 pro with 5" slabsided barrel, I might be content!

I prefer a round barrel on my N frame revolvers, but I didn't let the slab sides of my 627 Pro deter me from buying it. And it shoots great too. But, if S&W would make an 8 shot 357 Mag with the traditional half lug round barrel in 4" or 5" in either carbon steel or stainless I would be on it like white on rice.

I typically like Full underlug round, but I've had a couple slab sides, My oldest son has my 657 light PC hunter right now but I just picked up a 296 Ti this week, now this is light!

Slab sided is Ok, but destroying the beauty of Stainless Steel with a bead blasted finish is NOT!

I love the looks of my 686SSR. The slab side and sloped underlug seem to say that the gun is ready go out, get driven hard, and win some competitions.

Slab Side vs. Traditional

I'm very new to S&W revolvers and am typically very traditional, and always assumed I would go for the classic style revolvers in-the-blue, but... Some of the slab sided revolvers are really well done in my opinion. So much so that I just acquired a PC 627. I am hoping to get several more as well as Classics like the 25 and 29

I'm familiar with and really like the 327 TRR8, PC 627, PC 686 Competitor, and PC 629 Competitor and PC 629 Competitor.

Compact slab sides

To me these are not quit true slab sides... maybe mini-slab sides? :p

With the exception of some of the really weird ones with compensators, I prefer the slab to the full underlug. If I could actually choose a barrel profile, it would be the classic heavy ribbed profile with ejectior rod shroud. In the meantime I sort of like the balance of the slab profile.
