Slipping up on the Shield safety

My Shield is my EDC so I dry practice drawing it from concealment, thumbing the safety off, putting the sights on target, and pulling the trigger.

I find after a lot of practice my thumb still misses or slips off the safety about 1 out of 10 times.

Seems like a good enough argument to me to carry with the safety off. If I'm confident carrying a Glock 26 with one in the chamber, which I have done, I should have the same confidence carrying the Shield.

What is your experience.

That's how I feel too. The safety is just stiff enough that it's never engaged unintentionally on me (over the last 18 Months) and it's the ONLY carry pistol I own that actually has a safety.
The ol' booger hook stays out of the trigger guard unless I'm on my intended target.

I don't use the safety and really wish it was not there in the first place.

I use the safety to holster the Shield and then flip it off. My holster covers the trigger and guard.

I find it awkward trying to flip the safety off when drawing the weapon. I figured if I left in on I would come in 2nd place if I really had to use it.

That's a different approach to the safety that I never thought of. I might try that. I've never liked the idea of a safety on my Shield. I know with training, it can be done. I just choose not to.

I'm having this same issue with my shield. It seems every time it comes out for practice it takes a couple to remember it, but once I'm in a grove its fine. Its the first draw I'm worried about.
The apex trigger says that it is more effective as an actual trigger safety. I am hesitant to replace the trigger on my carry gun though. Not sure how that could be perceived by a jury of my peers. That's another discussion in itself.

I think one of the most likely times to get an AD is while holstering. You could get your shirt or something inside the trigger guard, so that is why I like to use the safety while holstering. Once it is holstered, I just flip it off. I have never had the safety flip back on and this is after standing, sitting or whatever. I like the option of having a safety.

I will start to not use the safety and forget about it. My trigger is the safety. I use foxx holster and I'll leave the saftey off better. When the situation presents it self, its not easy to think I got a saftey to switch off.

Everyone has different feelings on the Safety, but the Baby Sigma that I was carrying before I got the Shield did not have a safety, so I feel pretty comfortable with my safety off, once holstered with the Shield.

I like the feel of my trigger and would not consider an Apex kit. I also think it could look bad on you in court.

There are some folks that have the safety on and NO round chambered..... Lots of luck to them if they get into a situation.

I seem to look at it one way.

Every weapons is always loaded, and my trigger finger is the only safety that i need.

I'm a lefty and have carried the shield everyday for over a year, iwb w/safety off and round in the chamber.not once has the safety ever accidentally engaged.

Wow!! I bet they run with scissors too! ;)

+1 me as a "round chambered, safety off" guy also. It has worked for me over the many years I have carried a GLOCK, and all of my GLOCK triggers are lighter than the one on my Shield.
