Hello all, is the S&W Historical Foundation still a thing? I emailed them and did not get a response. I'm not trying to be impatient, and I'm happy to snail-mail the form they ask for and the payment, but only if they are still operating.

But more importantly, can someone help identify a serial number for me? I can't tell whether the last digit is a "1" or a "7", which is preventing me from sending in the form to the Historical Foundation. Any help would be appreciated. Not that it matters for my question, but the model appears to be a Military and Police, made sometime pre-1922. I'll put up more photos and a short video in another thread. I've got some other questions on it.

I don't represent the SWHF but they are still around, and busy. If you send in a letter request now there is about a 3 month turnaround time for a letter of authenticity. The Assistant Historian is active here and may have more information.

With this serial number on a .38 M & P we can estimate it was made in about 1915-'16, but the letter will give its ship (official factory birth) date and destination. The production and "birth" dates can be the same year, or months/years/decades (?!) apart.

Thanks Alan, I appreciate it. I'll send the letter in now that I have the S/N correct.
