Smith and Wesson M&P MOE Black or FDE?

I bought the M&P VTAC II. It is a 16" barrel with a mid length gas system. I wanted the mid length gas system because it has less recoil. At least that is what I read. All I know, is that I can shoot my daughters 16" AR with a carbine length gas system and my shoulder hurts. I can shoot more rounds through my AR with the mid length system and no tenderness. Plus I think mine is more fun to shoot.

I used to be dead set on od green. Now I kinda want a black one. Decisions decisions decisions

Buy it all. Made in USA no chicom stuff.

Hello everyone

I'd like to buy a Smith and Wesson M&P MOE Magpul in OD Green. Unfortunately no stores seem to have them in OD Green with the discounts for LEO/Military/Qualified professionals.

So I was thinking that I would buy one in all black or FDE magpul, sell those parts and buy OD Green and replace them. My questions are,

1) What are your thoughts?
2) Would I be able to sell FDE or Black faster/sooner?
3) What would you do?

If this helps with the decision, here's a black MOE Mid with 1-4x scope...

Not at all, you make me want a od green and all black now. I'm not that rich

Well I just ordered the black. Kind of want the tan. Figured I should pick one up before they start charging taxes online and they stop that s&w rebate. Kind of considering buying another one now

So still waiting on it to ship.

But I was wondering to you guys, should I do s&w magpul moe? Or the s&w 15x which has the quad rail? Keep in mind I'm switching out most of the magpul components off the magpul one.

I feel like from the ones who have had quad rail attachments, it's heavier on the fore end. I feel like though the magpul is only .5 lbs lighter, most of the mass would be to the rear

It may not matter to you, but the main thing I like about the MOE model is the co-branded lower. I always add the oversized trigger guard, so I really like it "built-in". Plus, I think the MAGPUL logo on the right side is kind of cool.

Ultimately, it's your decision... If "get both" isn't an option, figure out where you want to be, and see which one gets you there fastest, easiest, or cheapest. And of course, let us know ;)

Well I just order 1000 rounds of wolf ammo for 5.56 and 1000 more for my AK : )

Ammo is a good first step! The color is a personal thing, much like the color of your car. Henry Ford and the makers of AR style, rifles, sorry, Modern Sporting Rifles had the best idea, ANY color as long it is black!
My early version M&P MOE only came in black. The only change I have made to mine is put on a Midwest Industries quad rail with FDE rail covers. Not a massive color change, but does break up the black a little. If I do decide to colorize it, I will simply take offthe quad rail and Duracoat it,that way I don't run the risk of having some guy paint the entire rifle. and run the risk of ruining a fine rifle.
Personally, I will take reliability over anything and mine has run 99.99% since new.

Awesome great to hear! I am a fan of black too. But I want others..unfortunately I can't go on that big of a spending spree! Hey off topic do you think price of ammo will drop like gasoline? Man I hope it does

Nope. The price of ammo just keeps on going up.

The price of gasoline isn't solely based on supply and demand. The OPEC oil cartel artificially controls supply (hence price) through setting agreed upon crude oil production limits across it's member countries. The only reason that the cost of gasoline is dropping is because OPEC finally realized that by driving the prices too high, it spurred oil exploration and extraction within US borders. If/when US domestic oil production and alternative energy come online, our demand for oil will go down. No matter what they would do to supply, we'd finally be in control of demand and a portion of supply. No more exotic cars, expensive development projects, etc in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is a one-trick pony: crude oil. Once that's gone, that country is just a god-forsaken sandbox.

The price of ammo goes up because of the materials that go into it. Copper, brass, lead are used in a multitude of products. There will always be competition for these raw materials especially as developing economies come online and those countries start to modernize.

Well I was referring to the over inflation due to Obama and Sandy hook. Wondering if you guys think it's back to normal, has it always cost near a quarter per round? I pay less but I buy the ****ty wolf ammo. I'd like to get brass for that price.

Here's my smith and Wesson, the fde isn't bad, I'd rather have OD green but OD green in magpul is nonexistent? Much less trying to find it in mid length is an urban legend. I see kits for about 65 on sale, but none are OD green. Guess no one likes OD green anymore?

Love holding my AR. I was in love with my AK but since this AR came in I'm kinda loving it more. I may switch out the buttock to something more sturdier, I don't like how there is movement at full extension.

Nevermind? It won't let me upload the AR or view it from.my.computer desktop

Got a question. Reading the rebate, says "factory direct and law enforcement agency purchases do not qualify". I bought it from sportsman's outdoor warehouse from their law enforcement only section, do you think this small print in the rebate excludes me?

No, you didn't buy it directly from the factory, and your agency did not purchase it... I think you should be good to go.

1. You're not buying factory direct.

2. You are buying the rifle for your use. Your department did not buy the rifle to issue out for duty use.

You should be good.

*Cypher beat me to it*

Oh awesome I was thinking that. But I did buy from leo/mil section only which is where my confusion is. Guess I'll know for sure when I get.my rebate!

"Normal" changes every year. It hasn't always cost 25¢ per round. Ammo prices just go up. I've shot pistols longer than I have long guns. I remember when a 50rd box of 115gr FMJ 9mm practice ammo was $8.99. Now it's $16.

For plinking and practice, there's nothing wrong with Russian manufacture, steel case, copper washed mild steel jacketed ammo. If it gets you more trigger time, good. The copper washed mild steel jacket projectiles will wear out your barrel faster, but the money saved in ammo costs equals the cost of a new barrel. It's a wash.

If you want take a step into the rabbit hole...

If the ranges within reasonable distance from me allowed the use of bi-metal jacketed ammo, I'd still be using it. I have 500 rounds of it in my ammo can.

The only way to get below 25¢ per round is to load your own. Using the most basic equipment...

If you think you'll reload, then brass case ammo is the way to go. Affix a brass catcher to your AR, and save the cases. Pick up strays at the range. If you need to buy brass case, Wolf Gold is good stuff.

I haven't had much time to reload, so I've been buying the least expensive brass case practice ammo out there. I'm on my 2nd case of Wolf Gold and will order another case next month.
