I recently acquired a 1959 S&W pre model 50 Chiefs Special Target blue with a 2" BBL. I would grade the gun around 98% with the original grips and box. I can't find any price comparatives on this model. Could someone give me a "ballpark" value? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Some pictures of the gun might help the experts help you.

Values are speculative due to rarity.

Don't sell it if you can shoot it!!!

That goes like this: Hang out at the score posting boards. As you see slow fire scores you know you can beat, start running your mouth such: "Cheeech!! I can shoot better than that with my snub nose!!" It's pretty much guaranteed you'll be challenged like so: "Oh yeah, for how much?!!"

If you're any good, it won't be too long before you won't get any takers at home, and then you'll have to go on the road---but it'll be worth your while!!

It's a Chiefs Special Target Model, not a pre-anything. If you think
it's in the 1959 serial range, is that 149xxx? Some in that range
and all the way through 1966 were marked Model 36.

Smith & Wesson first announced the Model 50 name in 1962, but
the first time the company used the model number was for a run
of 568 in 1973.

Thank you all very much for your input. My takeaways are that I should get a S&W factory letter. Happy New Year.

The predecessor to the mod 50 CST was the mod 36 CST and its predecessor was a none mod marked Chief's Special Target! The factory introduced the mod 50 in order to keep the Chief's Spl Target parts separated from the standard Chief's Spl parts. As stated above your gun was probably manufactured before the introduction of the mod 50! Your gun, w/numbered box, is probably in the 2K price range.

I have one that is a pre model in got a letter for. It didn't belong to anyone and said was probably a dealer gun

Not to hijack this thread, but how about a value on a NIB 3" 36-1 CST made in ~1973?
