Why did they call/label these as "kit guns"?

I would think that a 5" would be a nuisance as a duty gun due the difficulty in getting a good security holster for them. I still have one for 4" N frame and it was ... interesting to get.

Like someone was saying, these 26-1s were never carried on duty. GSP had just switched to Troopers’ choice of a 4506 or a 5906. These were commemoratives only. GBI agents were offered a commemorative 586 at the same time. One poster is confusing Dekalb county’s 4 inch 25-5s as these. I picked up an overrun 26-1 at Franklin’s gun shop for $350 years ago. It had been taken in a burglary and had some cosmetic damage. Shoots great, though.
