Smith & Wesson factory repair issue

:):):) what a great company!! 40 years old gun.... REPAIRED AND SHIPPING FREE!!!

As I said before. It wasn't going to be free. Something occurred to change that. I hope to know more when I here back from them. Free doesn't make up for the loss.

6 weeks for a "charged repair" is great given S&W's current back log. I was quoted 6 months. That being said, I doubt the repair amounted to much which is why you got it for free. They have shipped me small parts for free more times than I can count. I do not think it was free to make up for losing your box. I have sent in original boxes every time I have had a gun repaired, but they have been blue plastic one from one of my newer guns. Worst thing that happened was they scratched off the original label as it did not match the gun I had sent.

I think you're right. It was originally going to be 2 months for the estimate and up to 7 months for repair. Something changed that. I think that S&W's normal proceedure is to return the gun in the same box that they received it but something happened here. Probably bad luck on my part. Quite frankly my main concern prior to sending the gun was the entire gun getting lost either in transit or at the S&W facility and admittedly I really didn't give the box any thought. I consider this gun almost irreplacable. There's a Dutch proverb that states "it's better to lose the anchor than lose the entire ship." I think that applies here. Thanks for your reply.
