Smiths in 45 Colt Ctg The Ultimate 25 and 625 discussion.Edited June 2014

Gotta love how Photo Bucket has single-handedly ruined old threads like this by going premium.

Pages once lined with gorgeous pictures now reduced to a graveyard lined with headstones all baring the same inscription.

On Topic: I really love the Smith & Wesson Model 625, but sadly nowadays they appear to only be offered in .45 ACP and most recently manufactured models which were chambered in .45LC aren't the same as older models since they all have a full length ejector rod housing and tend to have round butt grips. So sadly unless I'm lucky enough to encounter a reasonably priced 625 from decades ago, I'll have to settle for the Ruger Redhawk in .45LC/ACP, which while nice, isn't the same as a 625.

I ordered a new model 25-15 in 2016 in 45 colt, but I don't see it offered on the S&W site now. Wonder when and why they decided to drop it? I like it fine, although the double action trigger pull is a bit much for these arthritic older fingers, so I just shoot it single action. Love to reload for it, one of my favorite rounds.

I recently was able to acquire my one of my grail guns a Model 25-9. I’m still looking for just the right set of grips for it.

Fantastic Photos!!

I am contemplating having a Unfluted .44mag Cylinder sent out to be bored to .45lc, and cut for Moonclips. Then installed it in a 625-3 3”. Is it preferable to use a 625 Frame or 629 Frame for the conversion? Or are both internally the same being N frames? I know I’ll have to have the barrel shank substantially shorted to fit the new cylinder. Is it more cost effective to just use a 629 barrel and Frame and have that bored out as well? Just want to consider all my options before sending it out.

Hi, group new to the forum. I work in a small store in Tennessee and have had a strange gun walk through the door. Smith and Wesson 25-2 45 LC with a 2.5 " barrel. Gun looks great but I can't find any info on the firearm. Customer stated it was custom built by S&W and they only made 100. Can any of you fine collectors enlighten me on this one?

I'm guessing original, you don't just cut something like these down(especially shortening the ejector housing)? I'd break my arm, getting my wallet. out of my pocket for the right price? You failed to mention this in your post?

We are trying to gauge a price for the customer I am honestly in the dark on this one. He is asking $1200 and I don't know if it's a $1200 gun or a $600 gun. What's strange is there is no caliber designation anywhere on the pistol.

You, are evidently, have more access to the info than I but., a lot of this info was missing in first post?

Just purchased 625-5, serial number CLS 010. This is number ten in a run of 48 guns for Accusport. The came from the factory stainless with blue cylinder. I have not had time to clean and polish it. The gun looks like new in better light with a light turn ring.

I just picked up #8 (CLS 0008) from a forum member; been bugging him for it for the past couple years. It joins a growing family of S&W 45 Colts and a 1 of 1000 Ruger Vaquero 3 5/8" sheriffs model, also from Accusport in 2000.

625-5 1 of 48 from Accusport

CH4, I am choking with envy, especially the Vaquero, which I assume is an "old" Vaquero, with the larger frame. My aging and arthritic long fingered hands do not care for the smaller 'new' Vaquero. The Pinto is also pretty impressive. Jeez.....

Yes, it’s an original Vaquero. The previous owner also had the factory fit a 45 acp cylinder to it.
