Snek...

A simple long branch will do the trick.

I take it you are not going the World Famous Noxen Rattlesnake Roundup this weekend?

No I will not be going but not because I don't want snakes killed for no good reason. Unlike some people (not you) just because something is not for me I don't think others shouldn't do it if they want to.

I just don't kill anything I'm not going to eat or what tries to eat me!
I catch and release fish I'm not going to eat and I let a doe pass if I don't need the meat. That's just my way.

A good friend of mine, a PH who lives in Zimbabwe, uses this method. He has killed a number of very dangerous snakes including mambas. At night on walking to his tent he carries this as well as around his home that is built in the kopjes. He kept score at his house well over 200 snakes.

I only kill venomous snakes, and only when they hang close to house and outbuildings. But it's a very efficient and safe method.

Actually, since that's only 31 miles from my home I think I just might head over there tomorrow (Sat) to see how big the snakes are this year and get some food.

No step on snek

I need to carry some anti snake therapy on my a.m. walkabouts.

The only pocket gun I have that will serve that purpose is my Ladysmith.

Will an occasion firing of snakeshot out of that gun cause any issues ?

TIA

I've shot a fair amount through a 4" Stainless Python & a Snub Model 60-7 zero issues or Problems

I like the choice of shot vs solid. Snakes can be super quick. Downright reptilian! I've heard tales of them dodging bullets. Shot gives you a good chance of hitting them inside 10 feet. Test the load on paper before depending on it. I patterned a .410 Judge once and outside of 5', the pattern was too wide for snakes, though excellent at 5'.

Outside 10 feet, you probably don't need to be shooting them, anyway . . . unless venomous and on your property.

I encourage to learn about the snakes in your area. Are any venomous; what do they look like?

The only snake I'd shoot around here is a copperhead. And I know what they look like.

Carry a flask with some snek repellant in it.

My Dad had a brown glass cough syrup prescription bottle. He talked the local pharmacist out of a Rx label and typed out like a regular Rx an the medicine name was "Snow snake serum". take orally as much as needed.

He filled the bottle with apricot brandy, took that camping for years with his buddies.
