So how cold is it outside?

I was in a snow plow last Wednesday night. The ambient air temperature dropped to -18 F. The wind was blowing 40 mph. I had to fuel the truck at 4:30am Thursday morning. Tried two different fuel pumps. The diesel was gelling. Thank goodness I brought my polar fleece face mask. I don’t believe I have experienced wind chill of this magnitude before. Retirement is looking better and better!

Currently -8, wind chill -38. No additional snow for 2 days but still blizzard conditions. All snow plows, county and state have been pulled. No help for any idiots out there. LE is getting pissed at the people that think they just must get out on the roads. You could tell by the comments made by the sheriff to the radio station.

Muley Gil...........stay warm and inside up on the Blue Ridge Plateau today!

Right now, it's 13° Fahrenheit in my town, with a strong wind blowing. My county's automated emergency notifications system called to advise that a number of homes here have lost power, with the outages expected to last several days. Two of our county's fire stations will serve as warming centers for people without power.

Stay warm, folks...good luck to us all...

Tail end of this event passed over us last night. It was 22°C yesterday, and -1°C at 0800 here in Mexico. Discovered that the heater in our hotel room didn’t work at about 2245. Thankfully the hotel duvets and the residual building heat meant we slept just fine. Guy changed the unit this morning in about 20 minutes.

It was 2 degrees in the Ozarks this morning when the power went out at 6:30 AM. I kept the fire stoked all day to fight off the chill. It had warmed up to 12 degrees outside by the time the power was restored around 3:30 in the afternoon.

Ugh the cold water line to the kitchen sink is frozen solid,no doubt it’s cracked. The good news is it and the hot line have an extra shutoff under the front door landing. The bad news is that the kitchen is above the unheated garage and the waterlines run across the kitchen floor about five feet over a layer of insulation,(the garage ceiling is also insulated)but they are below the cabinet floor of custom built cabinetry with granite tops. I’ve figured out a new route for both lines inside the cabinet and I’m considering using Pex,but I would have two shark bites buried in the edge of the garage ceiling.

Gawd I hate plumbing [emoji35]

Was -27 here yesterday with a wind chill of -57. Right nippy. Wife drove 2000 Lincoln to dentist and locked the doors!! Mistake key would not open either door as the locks were froze. I went down with hand held propane torch and ran it back and forth over the handle for a bit and it opened up.

Was -21 this morning but had warmed up to 10 a while ago. Supposed to hit 40 Sunday.

Learned the hard way after moving up here not to yank too hard on car door handles on cold mornings. Strange things happen below -20

It's predicted to get down to falling-iguana cold this weekend in S. FL. The city has warned of the dangers of frostbite. Humm, low maybe in the upper 20s to low 30s. No, I don't think that's Arctic cold yet.

Heading to Milwaukee tomorrow, I had to put air in the tire. Cold seems to affect aluminum rims more than the old steel rims. Makes sense since aluminum reacts to temperature changes more.
