So Who's Selling Off Their 3rd Gens Due to Lack of Parts

I "in"...

I just got "in" last year so I can't afford to get "out". All mine are in very good shape with little apparent use. I'm not a heavy shooter, & like timn8r said, I try to spread the good times around between the 3rd Gens & my assorted (don't have to chase brass ;)) revolvers. Besides, there's nothing else out there that interests me.

Parts are available and will be available - it comes down to how much does one want to spend?

I collect military surplus firearms. Most are decades old, been long out of production and some manufacturers and even some countries no longer exist much less support them. Like anything out of production, finding parts for 3rd gens will be a matter of looking and cost.

I have an H&R Model 195 USRA Pistol with Roper grips and adjustable sight radius. Parts are probably a bit harder to find than for an eighties S&W, but I'm not selling it off.

If you're worried about parts, start looking for PARTS now, not for a replacement gun.

I did. Got one left on hold for someone. I might not shoot enough to break it but if it does I don't want to be stuck with a useless chunk of metal. As it is now they are still worth more than parts so I sold off

Parts will of course be available but I don't like to hunt for parts. There is no "thrill of the chase" for me. I just want it to work and be able to go online and find parts instantly when needed

What's the best recommendation for a spare parts kit for a 6906. I found this,

SERVICE PAKS
TYPE I - For Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistols contains the following springs to replace weakened or broken springs, returning the pistol to original factory condition: recoil spring, extra power firing pin spring, hammer spring, extractor spring, 2 ejector springs, magazine catch spring, drawbar plunger spring, safety lever plunger spring, slide lock plunger spring, safety lever detent spring and rear sight body plunger spring.

I just bought a 4013TSW with 4 mags and 3 holsters with box at a steal of a price on GB. So I guess I'm not scared by the lack of parts. I really don't shoot a lot.
It's funny, I prefer older stereos, bicycles, and guns over most newer offerings.

I'm not selling. What would replace them? Ugly striker fired plastic guns with lousy triggers? No. That will not happen to me.

A Sig 227 might be a possibility. Down the road a bit though. Sig and HK are the only companies making new guns I want to buy or have a use for.

But I own two of all my 3rd gen carry guns. Nothing breaks on them. They just keep running. I'll hang onto my spare 3rd gen guns though. Just in case. ;) Regards 18DAI

Nope, not me! I have only three but they won't be for sale for a long, long time.

You know the old saying "necessity is the mother of invention"? Well, that's what I believe will happen for 3rd gens. There's an incredible number of highly talented and ambitious people in our good old USA and when common parts are no longer available anywhere they're gonna step forward and provide us what we need. Just a pipe dream? I don't think so, I've seen too many so called unobtanium parts being built today to standards and quality that are higher that OEM.

loeman has hit the proverbial "nail" on the head........and as stated earlier....parts will be available albeit a little costlier ........so all you guys that are selling because of fear of parts availability .................................................thanks:)

Your welcome! And enjoy! They don't do anything that my Glocks don't. If the roles were reversed I'd dump Glocks just as fast. If HK stops making parts I'd dump them too.

I think most people are buying
a couple years ago 300.00 would buy most all day long today in my area you are fortunate to see any 3rd gens for 400.00 or less

Glad a bought a "few" a while ago
Hank

I just located the parts and put a Melior 1930s production 7.65 pistol back into operation. This is a nondescript company that I expect most of you have never ever heard of. Finding parts for out of production pistols will always be a challange since manufacturers have no vested interest in keeping them working so you'll just have to get creative over time.
One of my approaches is to try and keep critical parts on hand for as many of my pistols as possible.

I got my 1st gen 3 (5906) about 2 months ago. Really enjoy shooting it. Maybe I have been lucky, but I have NEVER broken a part on any gun I have ever owned. (44 yrs.) I have replaced parts to update by my choice.
My buddy has a Ruger SP101 with a broken firing pin, and nobody has them available. Why? So my 5906 stays with me. Bob
