So you own a J-Frame.....now what

Installed my kit in my bobbed 337pd and shot about 75 rounds through it today.

I did not use the rebound spring - only main spring and FP - because I like a strong trigger return.

It went bang everything and improved the trigger pull noticeably.

Well, I took long enough, but finally made it to the range. Shot 200rds. of mixed brands/styles. 50rds. of Federal 158gr.SWC, 50rds. of Federal Champion 158gr.LRN, 45rds. of Winchester M41 ball 130gr.FMJ, 30rds. of Federal Nyclad 158gr.LRN, 5rds. of Federal Nyclad 125gr.LHP, and the rest were Speer Gold Dot 135gr.JHP. No issues with primer ignition at all and accuracy was improved due to the lighter trigger pull. I'm happy with it so far but will continue to test it with time. I plan on popping the sideplate again to stone some of the contact points to smooth things some more. Color me satisfied! :) Can't wait for the .22LR J frame kit so I can put it in S&W's new 43C if they ever decide to ship the damn things.

Got my mainspring and FP today. I swear, I've had a harder time buttering toast. I can't wait to get to the range.
I had originally went with the Wolff ms but read too much concern about light strikes. Having dealt with Apex for my M&P9c I knew I could trust their products to make me a better shooter.

Just ordered an Apex J kit for my 60-4. Will also polish the rebound spring housing on its exterior contact surfaces when I have it apart. Looking forward to a better DA trigger pull.

Flawless run at the range with the Apex kit. Ran Winchester white box, Speer Gold dot and Hornady Critical Defense with no issues whatsoever.
Does anyone think bobbing the hammer on my 637 would cause problems or would the hammer weight not be an issue ??

Apex kit for my J frame came in the mail today. I'm new to all of this, and the last thing I want to do is screw up my gun. With that said, I have a question.

I exchanged the firing pin and the main spring but I am not able to remove the trigger return spring housing. I don't have the proper tool, and using a flat blade screwdriver. I'm afraid of prying on it too much and bending the post.

Before I reassemble it as is, will I be disappointed if I just replace the firing pin and mainspring? I know a gun smith not too far away. Should I reassemble and shoot it like it is or just take it to him and let him swap out the last spring? How much difference will the new trigger return spring make?

I ended up putting the factory rebound spring, firing pin and firing pin spring back in my new 442 and leaving the Apex main spring in. Ran 100 or so rounds through it yesterday with no problems. Will run a lot more through it before using it for serious work. I also dry fired it 1000 times when it was stock to smooth it out some.

Thanks Photoman44.

I decided to reassemble and take it to the range and shoot it with the upgrades I was able to do myself. If I don't like them or decide to install the trigger return spring, I can always have the smith to it at a later date. It does seem to have a slightly better pull just with the mainspring changed out.

Any particular reason why you went back with the original firing pin and fp spring?

thanks,

Tiger.
