Some Fine Fotos From Floyd

I was born in Virginia, Newport News to be exact. My Dad settled there to work at the shipyards after WWII. We moved back to Missouri when I was 18 months old. Naturally I don't remember anything about it, but it's good to see I'm from such a beautiful state.:)

beautiful pictures! I think ive said before if I hadnt met my wife id be living further out that way instead of in the coalfields. Beautiful country out there! Especially love Mabry Mill, I hunt in Patrick county often and make it a point to ride to floyd just to go through, nice folks.

Now I'm homesick. My High School was in Virginia Beach, lived in Richmond 10 years, used to fly through the mountains out there between Wytheville & Roanoke on my motorbike, good times!

Beautiful pictures; thank you for posting them. Do you have any winter scenes?

Thanks for sharing those with everyone. Virginia has a lot of great places, and I have been traveling Rt. 58 from the beach out towards you for the last 30+ years. It is a great ride from one end of the state to the other. We vacationed at Fairystone a few years ago and had a great time up in your area.

Bullseye and Muley Gil, thanks for those great photos...they bring back some terrific memories...

In late October 2004, I rode my beloved K75s the entire length of Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, all the way from Front Royal, Virginia, to and through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was unforgettable. (A photo from that trip is my avatar here.)

With the tourist season being over, traffic was very light, and there were times I encountered more motorcycles than cars or RVs. At the end of my first day's riding (the light was fading and Bambi was coming out) I came down off the Parkway and spent the night in Buena Vista, Virginia. The next morning, bright and early, I went back up on the mountain, and for the first 17 miles of the day, I did not see another soul or another vehicle...I had that wonderful road all to myself!

I didn't take that many photos -- I was enjoying the ride so much I didn't stop very often -- but attached are a few of my favorites, including a highway sign like no other...

Thanks, Beemerguy53. That is a unique highway sign, but I'll tell ya, I know of a couple of "roads" up here that could use something similar, or at least the free issue of a box of Depends with every descent. ;)

Muley Gil, I'm not ready to concede just yet, but I do acknowledge that y'all have both Mount Rogers, and, the Whitetop Mountain Band. :D

Is that first photo your home place? Talked about "nestled deep in the mountains. . ." Sweet!

We visit Floyd every time that we see my Wife's Sis and Bro-in-law who live on the top of Bent Mountain just a little North of Floyd. The last visit was on my Harley Road Glide. I rode the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway plus just exploring the area between Roanoke and the North Carolina state line. It is truly beautiful country.

Bullseye, My compliments on the quality and composure of your pictures. You are a gifted photographer. I took many pictures while in and around Floyd and your pictures put mine to shame. ....... Big Cholla
