I would really like to know more about the 4506/4506-1.

(1) Which came first the Straight or Rounded grips or were they both available at the same time?

(2) Which came first the Square or Rounded trigger guards or were they both available at the same time?

(3) What is the difference between the 4506 and 4506-1 and which came first?

I read the Wikipedia explanation but thought I might get more from the experts, Hope so anyway.

First guns came with the Curved (rounded) backstrap grips...They're easy to swap out BTW...nothing but a Delrin shell......

Square Trigger Guards came out First...I think as a concession to holster makers....a lot of people didn't like the hook.....I love it.

4506-1 Guns were the first Revision of the 4506 and apart from the Trigger Guard and Standard (Now) Novak Rear sights, I'm Clueless....There's enough wisdom here to fill in the blanks....Zebulon

The 4506 came first and had a lighter frame. After the 1006 was introduced, the frame was heavier (you can see this by looking at the thickness of the steel in the dust cover area and you can feel it in the weight). I believe that S&W wanted to standardize on the frame and so the 4506-1 uses the newer 10mm frame. Perhaps there were other engineering changes, but that is the one that I and my associates could see.

Thank you Shawn.....I knew I didn't have all the info. I appreciate that. Zebulon
