I've had some good experiences along these lines...
At a gun show about 10 years ago, a seller had, in a box full of used grips, a pair of OEM S&W K-Frame finger-grooved combat grips...priced at $25. The catch? They needed to be stripped and refinished. I bought them on the spot...
At my LGS a few years ago, there was a 3" Model 624, with the original finger-grooved combat grips, priced at just $350. I wish had taken photos of it: It was filthy, looked like it had been fired and then thrown into a closet where it just sat. The stainless steel was dull and blotchy, the barrel and cylinder were cruddy, and the finish was flaking off the grips. I bought it on the spot, and with a little bit of elbow grease and a couple hours' time, had it looking good as new.
Here on the Forum about 8 or 9 years ago, a member was selling a Victory Model, at about twice the going rate for those revolvers at that time. The difference was that this gun was in new, unfired condition! I couldn't type "I'll take it!" fast enough!
Good deals are out there...you just have to be patient, and recognize one when you see it.
