Hello and thank you...
I am new to being someone who loves to shoot and loves 3rd generation S&Ws.
I have a 6906 I bought from bud's guns used, but in really nice condition.
I love the gun.
I also love to shoot. I put about 500 rounds through it once a month since July.
Do you think this is a bad idea?
I ask this because I think about my 6906 like a '73 Camaro.
Should I shoot it that often and then replace worn out parts? I worry I will not be able to replace the parts at some point, or it will get really expensive to replace parts.
Or should I buy another S&W (newer model) to shoot regularly?
I am sorry if this is a really stupid question.
Obviously, I think shoot it and worry later, but maybe I want to leave it for my kids?
Thanks everyone.

No. I've put as many rounds as I can through mine for years and years with no issues.
This one's seen it's share of use and still functions flawlessly.

Unless you're shooting Hirtenberger ammo and it is your CCW piece, I'd replace parts when they wear out.

It is always a good idea to have some spares. So far I haven't had a problem finding any of them. There were MANY 3rd gen pistols made and most of the parts are interchangeable, even with 2nd gen pistols.

The only dumb question (usually…) is the one not asked.

Shoot it and you still should be able to.

Got 1000's of rds. downrange with mine. No problems.

I think your finger goin' wear out before the gun will.

Have fun!

Fire away. I'd wager you will be broke from buying ammo to feed your 6906, long before it breaks.

I've got a 910 with over 20,000 rounds through it. The 910 was not built as well as the 6906, IMO.

Enjoy your pistol! Regards 18DAI.

Plunky I got a NIB 6906 about a year ago and I have put a few rounds down range on it. Shortly after that I was lucky enough to pick up a really nice 4006. However it had some problems. I took it to a regional S&W repair guy and he fixed it like new. He said to bad I want see you soon, I said why? He said bring it back just so I can see if you are taking good care of it when you hit 25,000 rounds.

Sounds like handgunner has got it right, so keep it clean and greased up and shoot it!
