I have a 15-2 that I'd like to make into a twin of my 14-2 Dayton Smith.
Numrich is out of stock. Anyone have an idea where I can pick up a blued 4" heavy barrel?

Just be aware that the heavy barrel, while it will fit and function, will not blend smoothly with the Model 15 due to the different shape of the receiver contour where it mates with the barrel

This is what I am trying to figure out. My 14-2 looks so good with the heavy barrel. Will a Model 10 heavy barrel match up better than a Model 13, or are they identical?

The M10 has a front sight set for a fixed notch rear sight. It won't match up with an adjustable rear on a M15.

The 14 and 15 have a ribbed barrel. 10 and 13 do not. If you want a barrel to match your frame it will have to come from one of the former. IIRC the heavy 4" was made for a special run of 14s, not a standard stocking item. I agree Jack First may be your best bet.

Md8232,
USAGunsandgear has one in stock right now. I just bought a Model 17 Barrel from them. It is in great condition.

The guys are right, if you do source a 14-2 HB with correct raised ramp you will have to start with a Model 14 frame because the old 15 frames are notched at the front to mate to the narrow rib barrel.

BTW the four inch 14-2 " Hanen special" aka Dayton gun used the Model 10Hb that has no grooves on top.

I wish I'd seen this sooner. I just sold a 15 barrel to a local gunsmith. I'd much rather have sold it here. The gunsmith ask me a year ago to be on the look out for a 15 barrel and I happened to be in a LGS that had a gunsmith section. So I ask if they had any Smith parts. He drug out a box full of barrels. Take offs I suppose. He had a barrel for a 14, 41, 27, and one 4 inch 15. he said ask the boss (owner) how much, talked to the boss and he said he had nothing in it and would take $25. I picked it up and took it to the other gunsmith and sold it, hoping to build up some local Karma if I ever need some work done.

Does a 15-2 take a heavy barrel?

Thanks everyone. So, a Model 10 4" HB seems to be what I need.
I'd like to have an exact copy of the barrel on my 14-2.
If someone has one, please let me know.

md8232,
The barrel I saw was blued. I input the search term "model 15 barrel" and it popped up.

I believe I still have a couple takeoff model 15 barrels in the basement, if you could use them I'd look? These aren't the heavy barrels but, originals for adjustable sights. PM or email me if interested, please?

If your 15-2 has the factory 2" barrel, the squared top/front of the frame will mate up with the wide un-grooved 4" heavy barrel. A factory 4" M15 has scallops to mate with a thinner grooved barrel rib.
You will still need to have the correct Baughman ramp sight added to a 4" H.B.

Or… you could leave your 15-2 alone and look around for a 15-6, which comes standard with a pretty heavy barrel. Putting a Model 10 barrel on your Model 15 makes no sense. You'll have a lot of money in sight work and it will look silly on a frame originally manufactured for a 4-inch barrel.

you might try some of the gun buster auctions, whole guns with destroyed receivers

I want also 15 barrel to my 14-3.
I don't remember seen model 15 in Finland.
We have model 14 in every gun shops with cheap price, 200 - 400 €
It's really unfortunate that I can't buy gun parts from the US

There were some 4" Model 14's produced,
Remember the 14-2 Hanen Special "Dayton gun" uses the larger diameter barrel but it has a much thinner smooth rib ,
Adding a raised ramp won't be easy.

On a side note the snub 15 uses a different frame than the 14 and 4" 15's. It has no "step down" to the barrel because it mates to the raised ramp, this is also why the used a longer rear sight leaf.
Lastly, yes the 4" Model 15-5 and up is actually the same barrel as the old Model 14's, about that same time the Model 14 got a full underlug barrel.

There is a side by side comparison of the 14-2 to a 4" standard 14 barrel in post 48 here
Some Combat Masterpiece eye candy

I put a 4" 64 barrel on my 67 years ago,the frame doesnt quite mate up with the barrel like a 14 or 66 frame would. Front sight is from a 17. Shoots great. Normal 67 on top.

Added a photo of the 17-6 4" and a 15-6 4" for you to compare.

The model 10 barrel has been touched up by a local guy and I think he did a very good job. It had heavy wear at 3 & 9 o'clock.
Now to contact Andy Horvath to do the barrel swap.
