Spam (meat) alert!

I used to love the 12 oz cans of corned beef, back when it was cheap, around $1/can. It's been too expensive for me to buy for at least the last 10 years or so, it's $4/can at present.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a different meat that can be opened and served quickly? Cost is a factor. Spam is cheaper than corned beef, for instance.

Cowboy fish recipe:
Place cracker on saddle horn
Place sardine on cracker
Place second cracker on top of sardine (optional)
Serve immediately.

I do buy sardines, both Norwegian and the ones from Morocco.
I especially like the King Oscar Mediterranean pack.

But I see sardines as a snack, not a main meal meat. Usually have them with Keebler's toast and peanut butter crackers or Wheat Thins

Hey T-Star - have you tried buying roasts like on sale,
Cook and then freeze it in multiple small containers.
Just Make sure it’s under water- broth.
The canned meats, at least most of them and probably all the cheaper ones, have a massive load of chemical additives.

Growing up, besides Spam, my mom served canned corned beef often. I still enjoy cb sandwiches w/tomato and mayo and cb hash w/cabbage.

It has gotten a bit pricey but It's worth it. The grandkids really like cb hash and fried eggs.

I'm heading to the kitchen now.

I'll be back.

So that you know: passing red blood is most often associated with a hemorrhoid or fissure.

I’ve had both and hemorrhoidal blood is much darker.

If passing red blood that looks just like you cut your finger, get to to doctor or ER right away.

Vienna sausages. We used to eat em
up when I was a kid.

Back in my oilfield days was what the workers used to call Vienna Sausage and Sardines - West Texas Surf and Turf. Standard fare for rig hands and well service guys. I always kept a supply of both in my truck. Along with toilet paper.

My rule is, and I learned it the hard way, twice, is that if it tastes off, stop eating it and toss it.

About 39 years ago, I got some food at a popular chain of fast food places that I won't name. I bought two sandwiches for me to eat then, one for my dogs to split, and 2 more to freeze for the future. I ate mine, and they just tasted slightly off. They didn't smell funny, or anything else. I tore the one for the dogs in half and they scarfed it down. I felt ok for a while, and then suddenly both dogs, at almost the exact same time, threw the sandwiches up. I didn't think it was a coincidence. I went into the bathroom and made myself puke. Too late. I spent about the next 24 hours on the toilet with a bucket in my hands. It was horrible. After it was over, I avoided the place for several months, and then one night, I just didn't feel like driving to the closest other one, and I did a very stupid thing, I went and got the same exact order as before. The second time, it lasted 36 hours and my girlfriend begged me to let her take me to the ER, but I refused. It ended just like the first time, I was going both ends and then it stopped. I told her it was over, and she asked, "How do you know?". I don't know, but I did. I drank a gallon jug of water, and went to sleep for about 14 hours. I woke up and cooked myself and the dogs a huge pot of hamburger and rice (One of my dogs would kill for it, he just loved it). I stuffed myself and the dogs did too, and I went back to sleep for another 12 hours. For 3 years I avoided the chain, even though it was my favorite fast food place, but after we came back to Ohio, I went back and as far as I know, it hasn't made me sick since. If it happened today, I would definitely go to the ER, and after I got out, I would find the closest lawyer and sue away. I doubt I would survive it again, to be honest about it.

I got a BBQ beef sandwich once that taught me to avoid food poisoning. I was about 14 at the time and it was awful.

From the looks of many people who work in fast food places now, it's amazing that more customers don't get sick.

Let us not forget the important roll that Spam played in feeding our troops through history.
I ( and thousands of Hawaiians) still like this richly classical dish on occasion.

In fact, I'd start hunting again if they had a season on them.
