Speer Swaged .38 HBWC

Anybody shoot these ? I've used the Hornady version and they shot great and were not messy to handle but these Speer are cheaper and available.
I Tried the Remington version but they were just too messy to work with .

I shot lots of them and the Hornadys 30 years ago. They shot beautifully in my Dan Wesson 15, with the 6" heavy barrel. I think I still have some around somewhere. Mike

Even though the Remington is messy it has the best price for large bulk amounts and was used by many a shooter in the
target games,due to their accuracy.

I have yet to shoot Hornady due to thier prices and have shot the Speer HBwc style 148gr bullets and was happy with their
accuray. With the right powder they will out shoot the factory Remington 148 hbwc ,at least in my revolvers.

I have shot thousands of them, competed in bullseye, PPC, etc. back in the 70's and this is what I shot by the thousands through my revolvers and Smith 52's. Loaded over Bullseye I could routinely cut a "rathole" into the X & 10 ring. As an instructor I supervised tens of thousands of them fired for training and qualifications. I also loaded them inverted for certain self defense loads for 2" guns as well. With that massive cavity forward, and the projectile being soft swaged lead, they opened up dramatically in "soft target medium".
This practice was not uncommon back then.
I have also hunted small game with them when loaded normally, they are probably the most accurate bullet for 38 special loads IMO.

Bummer! The Remington WCs have the reputation for being the most accurate.

Who has Speer Swaged .38 HBWC in stock?

Midway, but limited to 2 boxes of 500 each and S&H is around $ 18.00 (for that $ 18 they usually ship 4 boxes by USPS).

Speer HBWCs are great to shoot. They have a black coating on them now (they don't say what it is) and I think the last time I loaded them they weren't very messy.... maybe just a little.

Speer are available?.......... WOW!

I've never loaded their HBWC's, but I have loaded Speer 158 gr SWC-HP's & they are very nicely made. They look nothing at all like their ugly picture on the midway page. Very nice to load with a nice dry waxy overall lube like a lead 22 bullet, instead of cake lube in the grease grooves like with most hardcast bullets.

I have shot thousands of them. Never had a problem. It is a good bullet.
