Just read a small blurb on another forum that Sporstmans Warehouse is going to close 23 stores across the country. No listing on which ones, but there was a statement that some Canadian company will take over some of them under another name.
Anyone else heard anything?

Guess I better go use that gift certificate.

They were dicks to me one of the only times I was in there and I haven't been back.

The local one here closed over a year ago. Was a good store and on the way home from work.

The one here in my city opened a few years ago, and they had some nice Opening Week bargains. Since then, prices went sky high, and back to Wally World I went...I could care less, they don't advertise, no specials, and think everyone is tripping over themselves to shop there. If you ask me, poor management....Just like the rest in this country that will be receiving govt. bail-outs, they (non-efficient) should go under and let free-enterprise regulate this economy.

They closed one of their 3 Phoenix area stores several months ago. I know there have been problems at the corporate level for quite some time. I kknow a couple of guys in the gun department of the north Phoenix store and their continually bitching about their corporate buyers and inventory control. I just find it unsettling that a store selling guns, ammunition and reloading supplies is having financial difficulty with the current buying frenzy that's going on.

We've heard for a few months that the Albuquerque store will be closing - seems nothing but mismanagement, as you always have to wait in line at the checkout (so they weren't hurting for customers).

Oh well . . .

Thanks for the link Bad Speller.

We just watched on the news this evening that, the store here in Lafayette, Indiana is slated to close.

It's too bad. There are no other local stores that come close to the variety of inventory that S.W. has.

I've also thought that the level of customer service at our local store was above average. Always seemed to be staffed with knowledgable and friendly people.

Oddly, the ABQ store is not on either list.

For a store they're intending to keep open (which is NOT what the scuttlebutt has been amongst the employees I've talked with), they have an odd idea of how to do JIT inventory control.

At the OKC store I bought a Weatherby Vanguard for $399 and a CZ Ringneck 20 ga SxS for $699 which I thought were decent deals. The people were always pretty courteous and helpful so I will hate to see them close. If Academy were to also close there wouldn't be a gun store within 20 miles of me and they used to be everywhere. I'm expecting Walmart to stop selling ammo any day just because of the hassle and liability, so its probably going to get harder and harder to enjoy my sport.

"Inventory control" would suggest that they actually have inventory to control. The Columbia store is consistently out of ammunition, reloading supplies, and their firearms inventory is very low. I assumed that they were having trouble paying their bills, and thus couldn't arrange credit for more stock.

We have an Academy Sports in Augusta, and they actually have sales every now and then. A new Bass Pro Shop is being built. Now if we could just get a Cabela's...

Well crap, the Memphis store is on the list.

Gun prices were a bit high, but with the reloading supplies, holsters and other accesories they were one of the best gun shops in town.
Supplies and ammo have been a bit skimpy since the frenzy started, but I was really hoping they would bounce back.
Guess I'll go by this weekend and see if there's anything left.
