Well I went to pick up a M&P 10 today. I got home opened to look it over good and load up to shoot. I put the mag in and it wouldn't come out. I instantly got mad and thought I got a defective gun. After I calmed down I took another look and I smacked the side of the lower and the mag feel out. With the mag I could see the catch was moving freely if took a little punch and pushed the pin for mag release. About an hour later it hit me its a California gun with a bullet button. I'm in West Virginia. Anyone have any suggestions??? Contact s&w and tell them or play stupid and say its broke.

The same thing happened to me. I live in Washington State and just discovered yesterday that I had a bullet button on my new M&P-10. I contacted S&W via email and was told this morning that the ATF will not let them swap parts and that I should return the rifle. I responded and told them that was not acceptable, just send me the parts. We'll see what they do but so far I am not impressed. It isn't my fault the rifle went to a distributor that sent it along to the wrong state. That said, I am happy to make the change. Does anyone know for certain that the standard AR-15 mag release hardware will fit the M&P-10?

Just buy a new button and replace our ****ty Bullet button.

I know you shouldn't have to do that, you should have received one without the button, BUT, it's a cheap and easy fix.

I HATE our laws here in CA...

Look into the "wonder wrench" that will help to remove the BB, or bypass it.

Yeah...California gun laws are fun...that being said its an easy fix. Get a normal mag release for $5 and replace it. Just unscrew the mag release by pulling and rotating the mag release from the side that holds the mag in, not from the button side.
