The Elk rut is over for this year. Always lots of Elk activity here in Sep/Oct.
I live at Mammoth so have to be very careful walking to work..

I can identify with this first hand. We were in Estes Park, CO. and it was getting a little dark and there was a great sunset in progress. So I was pulling into a rather large parking area off the main drag to get a picture and out of no where this big bull elk pounded the side of the car. Never saw him. I thought I had hit something. I think my wife about wet herself because she saw him coming, her side of the car, but just couldn't get the words out. Nice dent in the car. Luckily it was a rental. Without a doubt these guys would kill you if you got too close. I think about my situation. If I had gotten out of the car to take a picture he would have killed me and I never saw him or his honey's. We're talking an entrance into a parking lot off the main drag in the heart of town. A bit scary.

Notice...

Notice that all the people ran off. Buck, you did your job well. I never thought of elk as being dangerous unless you mess with them but it looks like a bull in rut will go out of his way to attack something or somebody.

People can be such morons around bucks, bulls and such.

A friend of mine and his wife bought a buffalo calve. Fast forward 4 years and a divorce. She gets the now bull buffalo in the deal. The new guy in her life has a nice new Dodge truck. The buffalo isn't impressed and trashed it. My buddy always tears up telling about it.

From laughter.
