Back perhaps 20 years ago, I bought a Model 24, serial No. ABZ1977, 6 1/2", blue TT TH TG, white outline, yada yada, the works, with box and paperwork, in Pocatello, Idaho. A couple years later, I list about 30 pieces in an effort to downsize a really unwieldy collection, so I list them with an auction house in Cheyenne, Wyo. I also take a few pieces with me to shoot with my most bestest bud, Blazin' Jim, but when I get over there, and go to unload, all of the pieces I had listed were still at home in Idaho, so I put a whole bunch of arms up for sale that I didn't intend to sell, to make up for the 30 that I had promised the auction house. In that bunch was my Model 24. It sold for a LOT of money. When I got home, I stashed the original box, and had to forget about it.
On to last winter. A Model 24 pops up at auction in Pocatello, out of the blue, and I am immediately attracted to it. I put in a ludicrous bid on the thing, and darned if I didn't end up getting it. I'm out in the shed this afternoon, and that old crusty box falls into my hands as I'm looking for something else. I check the s/n for grins, and it looks familiar. Nah, it couldn't be... So I head into the house, get the revolver out of the spiffy S&W carry bag it came in from the auction, open the cylinder, and the s/n on the frame and the box are a match! I pull the grips for grins, and it's still a match.
My biggest question is, what is the lottery up to this weekend?
