Stuck Jag Adapter

Evening everyone,
Not a gun issue, but...I have an old Dewey cleaning rod that for reasons long forgotten, I screwed in a male adapter for female jags. It is now good and stuck. I've tried using heat to loosen up the threads with no success. Any advice on how to remove this without ruining a good cleaning rod?

If none of the penetrating oils or heat work you could try locking down the rod in a padded vise (so the rod doesn't get damaged) and turning the adapter piece out with a pair of Vise Grips. If that doesn't work, you could carefully cut the adapter flush drill it out with a left handed drill bit. Most of the time the LH drill bit will remove it, but even if it doesn't you can still drill it out and use an 8-32 tap to rethread holes.

While I've never had a stuck adapter I have rethreaded shotgun rods to accept "standard threads" as they are NOT all the same thread. You did not mention what caliber Rod you are having problems with however all but a 22 Rod should be easy to do this with. Even a 22 Rod is do-able if you can properly center the drill bit - but not much room for error on a 22 of course.

All the Dewey rods I've got came with a male end from the factory and a female/female adapter sleeve for conventional brushes and jags. Are you real, real sure that "adapter" isn't part of the actual rod?
