"Stuff" ...

Long neck bottled soft drinks were 7 cents, you put two pennies and a nickel in the machine open the cooler lid then grab your drink by its top drag it thru the metal rack maze get it to & thru the release door and voila you got a soft drink. Save up your soda bottles and sell them to the store for 2 cents each. Gasoline was 20 cents a gallon.

Soaping the street car tracks. Homemade gunpowder with sulfur, ground charcoal and salt peter. REAL black cats and M-80's. Playing cards in bike spokes. Getting kicked out of the house after breakfast and playing in Audubon Park all day....the best "back yard" in the world. Growing up in New Orleans in the 60's was a magical time.

Buddy and I would hide in the bushes on the road in front of our house( 1/4 mile from road) with 2 bricks. had rolls of the perforated caps for the Thompson sub gun. When any vehicle went by we would set off a roll. Most thought they had a blow out and would stop. All was fine until we got a county sheriff. He got out of his car and said," ok boys come out, its a pretty good joke". He told us to " lay off" so we did.

My buddy and I used to launch shotgun primers at hard surfaces with Wrist Rocket sling shots.
As I recall nearly all detonated.

We made smoke bombs with the mix, and if memory serves we added sugar. Then the local stores stopped carrying them red and white boxes of saltpeter.

Cap guns, cork ball imitation bp rifles, bb guns with the muzzle cleared and shooting dirt balls. BB gun battles, dirt trails in the woods on bikes, home made cigarettes out of corn silk and toilet paper, home made hard cider. Getting thrown out of choir and piano lessons. Rubber toy soldiers melted by cigarette lighter blow torches, model airplanes blown up with fire crackers. Tennis ball cannons made with reel deal steel cans and powered by lighter fluid.

The list is long
