One year avid reader, low volume poster. With the influx of new guys from the holiday I thought I would share some of my OPINIONS about this incredible forum. Here is a quick summary:

Is this rifle prone to out of battery discharges? Tons of good posts here on that topic. In short, it used to be, the later the model the less likely it is to occur. What do I do about it? Keep the bolt face clean! This has nothing to do with the big cleaning debate about bores. I'm talking about the recessed area where the round seats on the bolt. To me, it is common sense, the more gunk in the way of keeping the bolt from locking and the round from seating properly the more likely an OOB.

Buy cheap, pay twice. I made that mistake. When I first got the rifle I was caught up in bolting "cool stuff" to it, just because I could. I told myself, "it is only a .22, I don't need to spend a lot on it". Now it has a really cool tactical scope on it. That scope is a Chinese piece of junk. I will be replacing it in the future and it was not that cheap in the first place. I also paid $80.00 for a really cool green laser at the gun show, and that was supposed to be at a big discount. HaHa. It was flawed by cheap manufacturing. It was useless, and then I finished it off trying to fix it. It lives in a parts drawer now. I could go on, and on. Now I keep in mind my rifle is made in the U.S.A. and stick to my core values.

Cleaning the bore? Fun stuff to read because people are so passionate about their opinions on that subject. Everything is here from a guy that says running a patch down the bore between every shot will improve your groups to those who believe a bore seasoned with thousands of rounds is best. To date, I have not read anything definitive that backs up either position. It is your personal preference is what I gathered.

Trigger jobs? Another passionate subject, lots of good stuff to read. Again, personal preference. For me, after reading countless posts, I decided I like my trigger. Yes it is a heavy combat pull, but maybe I got lucky, it is crisp and does not creep. I did not end up cutting springs or spending money lightening it up. I did take a dremel and polish some of it. I did not use an abrasive. Waste of time? Maybe, maybe not, it works for me and my gun runs great.

Forum Rules? Early on I posted two pictures. I made what I thought was a light hearted, funny political statement on them. They were removed. Then I read the rules. Read the rules, they mean it, and should. Listen to ChattanoogaPhil the moderator. He has my respect not only as the Ruler of this fine board but is an avid enthusiast of the 15-22 and makes intelligent posts.

Bret248vista has gone out of his way to make some great videos for all of us. They are in the notable thread sticky.

Making your own posts? I am not going to preach about searching but I will tell you how "I think" it works. If you make a post like "what is the best red dot?" or "will this thing shoot blazers?" you will be ignored by the veterans with the most experience (I am not one of them, I am a rookie). They will sigh and know you did not even make an attempt to read anything more than a week old. If you ask a specific question that applies to your situation guys will bend over backwards to help you.

This board is a great place. I would like to thank all of the guys that helped educate me about the finer points of this rifle over the last year. Most of you don't know who you are because I read more than I post but thank you anyway!

I hope everyone with a 15-22 enjoys their rifle and this forum!

It's amazing how many problems can be solved by simply keeping the boltface and extractor clean - in any semi-auto firearm. A toothpick or an old dental pick is perfect for removing accumulated gunk.

It's amazing how much great stuff can be found on forums like this isn't it? In today's mass of media marketing we all get inundated with so much garbage...anymore I'm tempted to find a few good forum discussions online about whatever it is I'm looking for before I'll look at the advertising hype articles written by the "experts".

+1 on clean bolt faces and shiny ramps. I don't believe anyone has ever had a jam from a dirty barrel while the rest of the gun was clean

That was a good summary. That seems to cover most of the topics I've been reading over the past couple of days. I just ordered mine yesterday and hope to have it soon!

Amen.

This is just text to fill up the message to reach the minimum word limit ;)

Great summary. Rookie here too and I can't believe the amount of knowledge I've absorbed by reading through this forum. I'll also second the buy cheap, buy twice statement. I think everyone on this forum will. Unfortunately, I think many of us still had to learn the hard way.

I got my 15-22 and within 3 weeks, it was decked out in all the latest fashions. Now, I'm peeling things off and going for a light weight, functional assault plinker with quality gear... all learned from this forum.

Great thread.

I put a Strikefire Chinese optic on mine, the rest is all good USA stuff on mine.

I am going to be looking at better optics maybe as soon as this weekend, and it may be Aimpoint.

I cheaped out on the optic, I should have gone with Aimpoint to begin with, or a good scope for target practice out to 100 yards or less.

PHXSHOOTER, very well said, hats off to you Sir. Just to let you know, it is folks like you that make this forum one of the best place to view to help in answering M&P 22LR issues and or problems, also a place to go to view others modification to help YOU the new or old member make better decisions. Knowledge learned and not passed on is a dead end. I've found this forum to contain shooters who are willing to share their own experiences and help others understand their weapon better. Of course we all don' have to see eye to eye, but overall, no bitch slapping comments here on each other.

I was a member prior to owning the M&P, and so glad I did because since kinda new to the 22LR, I'm not new to weapons or shooting by a long shot. I just never took the 22LR to it's new level that the M&P platform has done. I've made new friends (I guess you call it TEXT friends) and appreciate the feedback including others view that may not agree with me. So welcome aboard, I think, to the best 22LR forum on the web. As I end my comments with ..............Group Hug... Thanks hope to Texts you soon.
