One year avid reader, low volume poster. With the influx of new guys from the holiday I thought I would share some of my OPINIONS about this incredible forum. Here is a quick summary:
Is this rifle prone to out of battery discharges? Tons of good posts here on that topic. In short, it used to be, the later the model the less likely it is to occur. What do I do about it? Keep the bolt face clean! This has nothing to do with the big cleaning debate about bores. I'm talking about the recessed area where the round seats on the bolt. To me, it is common sense, the more gunk in the way of keeping the bolt from locking and the round from seating properly the more likely an OOB.
Buy cheap, pay twice. I made that mistake. When I first got the rifle I was caught up in bolting "cool stuff" to it, just because I could. I told myself, "it is only a .22, I don't need to spend a lot on it". Now it has a really cool tactical scope on it. That scope is a Chinese piece of junk. I will be replacing it in the future and it was not that cheap in the first place. I also paid $80.00 for a really cool green laser at the gun show, and that was supposed to be at a big discount. HaHa. It was flawed by cheap manufacturing. It was useless, and then I finished it off trying to fix it. It lives in a parts drawer now. I could go on, and on. Now I keep in mind my rifle is made in the U.S.A. and stick to my core values.
Cleaning the bore? Fun stuff to read because people are so passionate about their opinions on that subject. Everything is here from a guy that says running a patch down the bore between every shot will improve your groups to those who believe a bore seasoned with thousands of rounds is best. To date, I have not read anything definitive that backs up either position. It is your personal preference is what I gathered.
Trigger jobs? Another passionate subject, lots of good stuff to read. Again, personal preference. For me, after reading countless posts, I decided I like my trigger. Yes it is a heavy combat pull, but maybe I got lucky, it is crisp and does not creep. I did not end up cutting springs or spending money lightening it up. I did take a dremel and polish some of it. I did not use an abrasive. Waste of time? Maybe, maybe not, it works for me and my gun runs great.
Forum Rules? Early on I posted two pictures. I made what I thought was a light hearted, funny political statement on them. They were removed. Then I read the rules. Read the rules, they mean it, and should. Listen to ChattanoogaPhil the moderator. He has my respect not only as the Ruler of this fine board but is an avid enthusiast of the 15-22 and makes intelligent posts.
Bret248vista has gone out of his way to make some great videos for all of us. They are in the notable thread sticky.
Making your own posts? I am not going to preach about searching but I will tell you how "I think" it works. If you make a post like "what is the best red dot?" or "will this thing shoot blazers?" you will be ignored by the veterans with the most experience (I am not one of them, I am a rookie). They will sigh and know you did not even make an attempt to read anything more than a week old. If you ask a specific question that applies to your situation guys will bend over backwards to help you.
This board is a great place. I would like to thank all of the guys that helped educate me about the finer points of this rifle over the last year. Most of you don't know who you are because I read more than I post but thank you anyway!
I hope everyone with a 15-22 enjoys their rifle and this forum!
