Yes, several years ago at the Lee Civic Center in Fort Myers. It is a 2-hour class with a subsequent "practical exam" to demonstrate that you can safely handle a firearm. The class was informative and they practically gave you the answers to the required written test for your concealed carry permit. The "practical" exam was a......well.....joke. They provided the gun and ammunition; it was held at the local police firing range; and all you had to do was pick up the gun, aim it at a target, and pull the trigger. It did not matter if you hit the target; however, if you put your finger on the trigger while picking up the gun you allegedly failed. Since they told us this was what they'd be looking for, it wasn't a difficult "exam," and I didn't see anyone fail. What did impress me was the number of people in the class --- a little over 160 --- and, at $45 a pop, that works out to a bit over $7200. And, since they ran 4 classes over the weekend gun show, I suspect they grossed a minimum of about $25,000. In addition, they sold everything from the book written by a Florida lawyer (who specializes in "stand your ground" and "castle doctrine" defenses -a very useful book for concealed carry, I should add) to other paraphernalia for concealed carry. They provided fingerprinting on site, and guided the group through the paperwork to apply for a concealed carry permit.
If you currently have a concealed carry permit, I honestly cannot recommend the course. You'd be better off buying the book mentioned above and spending a couple of hours reading it. I would also submit that the course requirements for a concealed carry permit in Florida are rather weak, but they certainly provide a nice source of income for those who are providing the classes.
