Suppressed 22lr

Hmm you've given me a project. It won't cycle my Tac-Sol w/o the can, but just might with that added backpressure...

Maybe.

Don't recall if I've tried mine without the can. I know CCI CB
Short and Long wouldn't cycle the 10-22, before I got the can.

Run sub-sonic ammo out of your 15-22 with the suppressor and all you will hear is the bolt operating when you pull the trigger..

Been there, done that, with several friends' rifles. If you shoot from a cement floor like at ranges then you'll hear the brass tinkling when it hits the ground. But that's about all you'll hear.

But sure, high velocity rounds will crack the sound barrier and you'll hear them coming out of a rifle but not from a suppressed handgun.

Years ago Hogue and Ruger worked on a project the called the "Alligator" it had a 1" barrel that was integrally suppressed, had the full rubber stock. They used the bolt action Ruger .22, with subsonic ammo it was the closest thing to the "pffft" you hear in the movies.

Not a "ported at 1", ala MP5SD?

I believe the quietness claim--unlike most of the "all I hear is the
bullet hitting the backstop" allegations. Only downside would be
velocity would be...rather tepid!

The velocity or speed of sound is 748 feet per second. Super sonic is 1150 feet per second.

Actually, the speed of sound varies with temperature*. You'd
be pretty hard pressed to get cold enough to slow it down to
748 f/s. Any speed that's faster than the speed of sound,
is supersonic (e.g. 1272 f/s at 99*, or 1800 f/s, 2750 f/s,
etc---all are 'supersonic').

I use Winchester Super X subsonic and Remington subsonic. Both cycle well, both are quiet, both are accurate.

Not "movie quiet" but then my pistol isn't either. Quiet enough that I've used it for pest control in an urban setting.

I run CCI subsonic with a Gemtech G5-22 can and you just hear bolt cycle noise and bullet hitting steel.

CCI CB 22 Longs when fired from a rifle are so quiet that the bullet striking the target is louder than the report.
From a revolver it is about as loud as a hand clap.

No tax stamp needed.

True, and only a small step up from a pellet gun, in
power & range.

CCI quiet will not reliably cycle any of my semi-auto .22s

In my experience, CCI standard velocity remains subsonic out of my semis (pistol and rifle), and reliably functions in them. It's just as quiet as any of the fancy 'suppressor' ammo I've experimented with.

One difference with a rifle as opposed to a pistol: the action on the rifle is a lot closer to your ears when firing it, so the gun will seem louder to the shooter. The real test is to listen 10-15 feet away away from the shooter to remove those variables.

I'm gonna have to call BS on this one. CCI Quiet might cycle a bolt on occasion, but experience shows it does not work "just fine" in most semi autos.

Call it what ya will, it works fine in mine. Try lubing
the action.
