Surround sound....

My problem isn't not hearing, I hear stuff that isn't there.

Probably a combination of damage from jet noise and gunfire, always a constant ringing in my ears.

Certain fans, like AC fans or blower fans make me hear melodious music, complete with violins.

Running water makes me hear the ringing of my cellphone.

I am just trying to understand why my wife often looks at me, moves her lips, but says nothing ??????

OK, I hear you, so to speak. I too have tinnitus. Mine is ringing and hearing WW 2 German march song type singing.

I shot lots and used chainsaws without hearing protection.

I saw my Dad's hearing going and started using hearing protection in my 30's but this was not soon enough.

It slowly degraded and by 55 I was hearing light ringing. I can still hear, some specific frequencies are gone.

What gets me is my wife knows this, she has a little loss from listening to music too loud. She used to squeal when I asked her to repeat something.

I also asked her to speak up just a little and do not talk low as she turns and is walking to another room.

She is getting better. I ask folks to talk to me and not turn your head. Kids included. One good sentence and then they turn their head. Guess I need to wear a sign.

Look at me when speaking.

My FIL has a 3K pair in his desk, never wore them. To change a quote, all else goes before pride.

His reasoning, don't need them, or hearing aids make you look like an old man but you are 80 something, if you wear hearing aids folks think your deaf, well doesn't saying huh? or please repeat that give the same idea and then they wonder why you don't have hearing aids.

My Sister took Dad in, had him tested and paid for the hearing aids. He never wore them once and continued to play his Glenn Miller at full throttle while sitting next to the speakers. One could hear the music before you got to the house. Mom stayed upstairs while Dad "sonic" cleaned everything in the family room with Boogie woogie Bugle boy.

If my hearing gets worse I'll need hearing aids. Vanity? No. I just hope I can afford them.

I could care less what folks think about plastic hanging out my ears. Heck they will be partially camo'd with all the ear hair.

I guess I need to patent a few ideas, Washer dryer, microwave timers, door bells and phone ringers that set off strobe lights. Who needs noise anyway?

Oh yeah, that sounds just like me. Ya know, I didn't get hearing aids the first day I needed them. I was getting complaints for years. 'Specially from Miss Pam. But I resisted for a long time. My thinkin' was, "I'm still hearing a lot of stuff I don't want to hear. Why then should I get hearing aids!?!?".

But one day we were baby sitting the grand kids and my 4 year old grandson said something to me and I said Huh? He lost patience with me and said,"You can't hear Grandpa! I wish you would get some hearing aids!!. So I caved in and got 'em.
