What is the minimum requirement for target practice for the .22mm SW MP ammo. Does it need to be HP CCI .22LR minimum quality? I was told that at the gun shop. Please advise..

I don't own a M&P 22, but I have a friend that does. He says his works perfectly with the stronger ammo. I don't remember the exact brand or specs.

Because it has a full slide, it requires a little more power to work reliably. At least that's what I've been told and it makes sense. I have a Sig Sauer 1911-22. I've only fired 50 rounds through it, but it worked perfectly with the el cheapo Federal ammo.

No, my M&P 22 eats just about any type of ammo 1050 fps or higher...
I've had no problems with,
RWS sub-sonics
CCI mini mags (40 gr and 36 gr)
CCI SV
Remington thunderbolts
Remington GB
Fedral auto match
Plus I have a Burris FastFire II mounted on the slide...

Mine will take about everything. I've had trouble, failure to feed', and stove pipes with Win. Whites and standard velocity Remington. Standard velocity CCI and Federal bulk work well. More fun to shoot than any other firearm I own. Do like the crack of hot ammo though.

I've put about 1400 rds through mine, all 1200 fps or higher. It didn't like Winchester M22 very much for about 200 rds, but did just fine after that.

I haven't tried anything under 1200 fps.

I've used just about everything through mine (maybe 3000 - 4000 rounds total) and it cycled fine with everything from 1050 fps up. My favorite is the 1700 fps Aguila Super Max and CCI Mini Mags (1235 fps). The only real problems that I had with FTF was the Winchester hollow points (in the 333 and 555 boxes). CCI standard velocity worked fine, Remington Thunder Bolts and Golder Bullets were fine. My personal preference is to use the copper plated stuff but full lead doesn't seem to be a problem. I think it will eat anything you feed it - but it gets better about everything after 500 rounds or so.

Yep S&W M&P .22's they're all a little different all with there own personality to a point if you will. I had no issued at all with Winchester hollow points in the 333 and 555 boxes my gun in fact loves them. Like another poster said 1050 or better.. CCI mini Mags work well too if you can find them.. Most prefer copper washed bullets for less issues.. I would be happy if I could find .22's at this poind still dry here..

M&P 22LR

I use what ever is laying around, new, old, mixed batches, cheap and expensive. It works every time. Only thing done was to polish the hammer face.

winddummy, ya I agree hammer face and where it rides against on the slide needs to be smooth.. I was lucky and my wear was smooth and it polished itself.. Took 2000 rounds and good cleaning between. I put one drop of lube on the hammer face too.. My gun runs great! George

22 ammo

Just got my M&P 22 two days ago, disappointed at first, initial 400 rounds of American Eagle HP had consistent FTE after first shot. Took it home, field stripped and cleaned thoroughly. Found that guide rod bushing was backwards and spring was not seating in recess. Reassembled, took back and it performed almost perfectly, only 2 remington goldens did not fire, reloaded and they fired. the ammo had strike marks on rim, maybe their age had something to do with the misfires. Remington ammo was 10+years old, but shot very well. I am now happy and very satisfied with this gun. Looking forward to lots of fun with this pistol. Purchased at Cabela's on sale for 349.99, best price around here. I also own Ruger single six convertible and Browning Buckmark, S&W just as much fun as those. Still experimenting with ammo, but if gun can handle bulk ammo this well, I'm happy! Nice job S&W!

I have an M&P22 and a P-22, both are made by Walther. When new, they would short cycle about 25% of the time, on anything by Federal, which seemed to be weaker. After several thousand rounds, they are better. I'm sure the recoil spring is not quite as stiff as it was when new. Also, keep the slide rails and the contact surface that cocks the hammer, lightly greased.

I cut about a quarter inch off the recoil spring of my trophy wife's P22, and then it shot anything. Probably would alleviate a lot of that thousand rounds of break-in ammo. I did buy a new spring before doing it, just in case. Still in the bag. Probably apply to the M&P22 also. My M&P22 is working just fine, since I bent out the angle on the mag, "see the thread on that issue".
