I am looking at purchasing a SW MP9 2.0 PC in one of two models and would like thoughts on them. One is SW number 11820 with 5" barrel non ported barrel and the other one is number 11824 with ported barrel. They appear to be identical other than one has the ported barrel. Is the ported barrel model worth $70 more? This will be a range gun primarily, no competition.

Thanks!

I've got a Shield Plus PC with a ported barrel and like it. But I've never shot the same pistol unported for a comparison. So it's hard to say for sure, but I would think it has to help some. Mine has the 3.1 inch barrel and I can shoot it just about as well as I do my larger pistols.

While I never thought porting a 9mm was a big advantage my gun is the PC ported model and it's my favorite. As long as you have a PC model, spend the extra $$$ and buy the ported one.

I have a fullsize 9 (1.0) with a 5" Ported CORE slide and barrel. I also have a 5" non-ported barrel for it.

Shooting standard pressure 115s and 124s I can't really feel much difference switching between the 2 barrels. Shooting Win NATO (124gr), I do feel a bit of a difference but not so much that I would call porting a clear winner.

I've also only shot in an indoor range that's well lit so I've not noticed any increase muzzle flash due to the porting. I don't compete so I don't worry about split times.

Good news if you go ported, you can always get a non-ported barrel.

If you plan to shoot mostly wimpy 115gr target ammo, you may never achieve the benefit of porting.

Exactly why I shoot 147 gr. 9mm ammo and love it. So does my gun.

I have the sku: 11825- 40sw but its ported and adjustable sights and I shot hot 155gr practice loads and 155gr underwood 1320fps ammo so Yes I feel and see the difference over even an old 4.25 40sw full size that I have .

This may become a CC for me .

Ask yourself if you'd like a red dot sight going forward. If so buy a CORE model.

I have 12470 which comes with a Crimson Trace red dot. Its and entry level red dot and the 12470 comes with tall suppressor height steel sights that 'co-witness'. 12470 is a CORE model. I dont think either 11820 or 11824 are CORE (optics ready).

That all being said ported guns get dirty...front sight and optic on mine need cleaning after every trip to the range. It stays cleaner with the non-ported barrel I have.

This gun is so soft and flat shooting that you definitely do not need ported barrels and a ported slide. This gun is a pleasure to shoot a is.
Save your money.

So Ask Your Self are you now going to buy a non-ported barrel for your core maybe a better optic ?? Ha

Some of us have optic ready m&p's and core models going back 9 years yet some of us still prefer open sights too even adjustable for some uses . I can always have a slide milled down the road but a local buddy for a better quality dot optic if I care too one day or I could have bought another core or optic ready model if I wanted too . Also not end up paying for lower quality red dot .

May be a live a learn moment for you too .
