SW1911 Slide stop problem

I recently bought a SW1911. Have been to the local range twice and put about 300 round through it and the gun worked great. Today I did a field strip per the manual and when I put it back together and installed a magazine, the slide stop would not release the slide. When I released the magazine, the slide stop released the slide with no problems. Everything appears to be in good order except the slide stop seems to be touching the magazine now. Did I do something wrong?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Did you take apart your magazines? If so, is it possible that the follower was reinstalled backwards. They only work one way but since you're asking here that is the only thing I can think of that would hold the slide stop up with more force than normal. If you did not clean your magazines I would suggest you do take them apart, clean and lightly oil them. This may make releasing the slide easier when the mag is empty.

The slide stop will touch the empty magazine, that is what causes the slide to lock back when the magazine is empty. By the way you should only drop the slide using the slide lock when a round is chambered, cause it's hard on the barrel lugs. Ride it forward with your hand. Remove the recoil plug and spring, and release the slide that way. Double check your reassembly.

Thanks for the suggestions. After another stripping and a 100 rounds fired through it, it seems to be working fine. I'll be using the push/pull method now.

with the slide locked back and a empty mag installed, you are fighting the magazine spring tension on the follower. thats why its difficult to release.

some mag springs are easier than others to depress in that fashion.

nothing wrong with the gun.
