SW40VE front sight replacement

A question. Has anyone tried filing down the factory front sight to match the Hi-Viz sight height? You could then paint it red or whatever color you want. Just a thought now that I know the proper sight height.

I never had much luck getting a good looking finish after taking a file or sandpaper to plastic... plus, I just like to tinker sometimes.

Picked it up at my local Bass Pro Shop.... not sure about the part/model number.... I threw out the packaging... next time I go to Bass Pro Shop I will check and post details for you.

Thanks to this thread, I recently installed one of these on mine. I haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet, but I like the new sight picture much better than the stock one. Hopefully, it'll raise my point of impact just the right amount like it did for the OP. Thanks for the idea Ray1970.

Hi,
Has anyone changed the rear sight of the Sigma? Is it easy to just punch out or is going to a gunsmith the better (more pricey) way to go?

Very easy to do yourself, depending on how strong your fingers are, you may be able to push it out, if not a plastic punch
( or something that wont scratch the finish ,if you care,) and lightly tap it out.

Yep had to file the sides. I did a little at a time on each side so as not to wear down one side to much. It's a very small screw, I used loctite on the screw.
To get the screw to catch I dabbed some glue on the screw top and stuck it to a wooden skewer for a minute or so to start the threading. I already had the socket size needed to tighten it. I'll check what size and post it up in the am.

I repair and build golf clubs as a hobby.

I have an answer for this statement above ......

#1 Get some ACETONE at a hardware store
#2 Get a Q-TIP or two
#3 Dip the Q-TIP in the ACETONE and proceed carefully and gently apply the ACETONE on the area of the plastic sight where you used the sandpaper or file.

You can use a "shop rag" as well if you carefully wipe the area in brushlike strokes and in the same direction.

After it has dried completely -- you can polish the plastic area with a shop rag and a bit of tooth paste ..... if needed.

This will bring the finish back to life and it will look very near original.

This is the very same technique used on the plastic collars (called "ferrules") near the iron and wood heads to "clean up" the construction or repair process.

I had to file a bit on the slide on mine as well. The slot was more like a figure 8 almost, with the center on each side protruding in a bit. Didn't take much at all to get it to fit. Biggest pain was getting the little bolt down in there, with a drop of blue loctite on it. Finally ended up using a pair of tweezers and spinning the slide around till the bolt started. Just snug, it doesn't need to be muscled tight, its not that big of a bolt. I have over 300 rounds through mine and it hasn't budged.

I have put some steel front sights on Glocks with that small bolt. Didn't have the proper sized socket so filed a slot and installed it with a good fitting screwdriver tip. Also used red loc-tite and they have all stayed on nicely.

Too bad S&W didn't use the same mounting system and slot sizes Glock uses as it is dirt simple and easy to replace missing sights. Be that as it may, my 9VE is a gem so far and I will probably put on a set of steel NS.
