Taylor Swift

She sold out Acrisure (Heinz Field at one time) two nights in a row, and had the largest attendance ever at that joint. I have no idea what any of her music sounds like, nor would I know who she is if she walked into a room. Did she sing with Lemmy in Motorhead?

I once saw saw Charlie Daniels for 10.00 in 1994. He was staying a a motor inn that had a room with about 200 seats and a bar. Got there early, doors opened at 6, walk in and sit where you want. I was center stage 8 rows back. Best show I have ever seen. He played for 3 hours.

I guess Taylor is the best thing since sliced bread. Never knowingly heard one of her songs, but she writes her own material. Obviously she is very talented, but I would never pay outrageous money to see anybody.

Edit: I just saw a few songs on you tube. She is not for me. I am sure live is better

My 13 year old daughter really wanted to go see Taylor. She is THE act for young’s girls, they’re obsessed with her.

Getting tickets from Ticketmaster for the face value price was next to impossible, because all of the resellers grab them up quick. It’s not like when we were young, there’s a whole industry of online companies that game Ticketmaster to buy at face value and then resell the tickets on their website for obscenely inflated prices. Taylor Swift prices are the high water mark of this scenario. It’s amazing to me, but people will pay the price. Capitalism works.

I felt so guilty not buying tickets for my daughter, but my sensibilities couldn’t allow it. Resellers wanted 2, 3, 4 thousand dollars a ticket, and more. Some lousy seats for $1,500. In good conscience, I just couldn’t support spending that kind of money on a pop concert.

The real problem happened when some of her friends ended up getting tickets. Talk about feeling like the worst dad ever!! I guess their parents didn’t share my indignation and/or just make a whole lot more money than me….

Now let me think....... should I go to an hour and a half concert to see a performer that I know not one song of, or should I buy a brand new Colt Python and lots of ammo to shoot and have money left over for a nice dinner out?? SUCH A DELEMA!

I think you’ve got this one figured out Chief, that’s a very solid plan!!

Found this filmed in Cincinnati last night. A friend of Rusty's may be on stage with her?

I saw Charlie Daniels perform his New Years Eve show at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth (billed as the world’s biggest honkeytonk) ca. 1982. Several thousand attended, tickets were around $10 at the time. It was a great show. The only one of those events I have ever attended.

I read an article on her recently. Apparently she really ties into teenage girl angst extraordinarily well, and her fans identify very strongly with the stuff she is saying about their ups and downs and trials and tribulations.

Reminds me a bit of adolescent me listening to Simon & Garfunkel and identifying strongly with the lyrics and the music, hearing something that seemed profound, but magnified about 100 times.

The only concert I paid for was an Arlo Guthrie concert back in 1970. I took my future wife with me. She didn't know who Arlo Guthrie was. I only went to listen to the long version of "Alice's Restaurant". It was an outdoor concert at Blossom Music Center in Cleveland. It was a great night. Oh by the way the grass seats were free.

Commercial "music" - you usually can't separate the visual from the audio unless the music transcends the looks of the performer/writer. . . human nature.

And yeah, I grew up during a watershed of music that changed the landscape. Whether you like certain artists and styles or not, you can't deny that music we were treated to starting 60 years ago is still making waves today. Not trying to be unkind, but my personal feeling is her music won't be well remembered 60 years from now.

But like my old man used to tell me, "if you're so smart why ain't ya rich ?" :D Don't know smart she is (or her handlers?) but she sure is rich and easy on the eyes.

It's all about marketing. Plus, many kids these days have no idea of the value of money. If they want something, they will pay any amount to get it. We have 3 new homes a block away from us that are about 1200 sq. ft. on a slab. They have all sold to younger people for around $350,000. Those are about $120,000 homes in this market.

For the two nights she is here Heritage Bank Arena sold 35,000 seats. She's getting by.

I made a mistake. I wrongly assumed she would be at HBA but HBA wasn't big enough so she booked two nights at Paycor Stadium. 65,000 seats x 2.

Kevin is correct. Her long time bass player (Amos Heller) has been friends of ours for over two decades. He has dined in Ruthie's kitchen many times. He taught for me while he was attending CCM. He is an astounding talent. He is animated onstage and possesses a blindingly quick wit. We get along well.

Taylor pays him very well and Amos also is in demand for Nashville side sessions. He also enjoys paid endorsements for apparel and musical gear with Fender being his largest.

Years ago he invited me to Nashville to a closed rehearsal auditorium to watch, meet and greet.

I was impressed by the level of musicianship to say the least.

All were pleasant folks.
