Telescoping side mirrors...

Overtaking vehicle has duty to keep clear-deal with it

Ahh, if only the world were as it should be...:p

Pulling a large trailer in multi-lane interstate traffic in/around large cities can be quite an adventure with idiots dive bombing you from all sides.

I've actually found a multi-camera system to work better than mirrors in many situations. One camera on each side of the trailer, and one on the rear.

Riding my bike in my early teens over the Sunny Isles Causeway I was clipped by those grated metal camper steps that weren't folded away. Tore my bike up and it was a long walk to get my road rashed self home.
Guessing it was better than being brained by an extendable mirror.

Probably better than these guys:
2 cyclists struck by driver carrying overhanging load on Sea-to-Sky Highway | CBC News

When I'd commute by bike (back when going in to the office was a thing) there was a guy I'd see every now and then with a shirt that said THREE FEET on it, and with a three foot long pool noodle extending to the left of his bike to get people to visualize the state's minimum clearance to pass a cyclist. Seemed to work great for him, but I sadly never got around to trying it.
