Ok so I am thinking of buying this from a guy in Houston. It is a 686 that he said was sent to JARVIS gunsmith in Montana... To buy or not to buy???

What would you price it at?

If you want or can use a revolver with rails and an electronic sight and that extra weight under the barrel then you buy it. The problem is deciding how much that contraption is worth to you. Many collectors wouldn't buy it at all, they'd consider it ruined, but if you have a use for it then it's not ruined at all. The seller probably wants to recoup the customizing and the cost of the scope (and stocks). I bet that's putting the gun into the 4 figure range but it would not be worth a thousand to me because I don't like it. So we're back to what is it worth to you? Why do you want it, what will you use it for, or will you use it?

Mostly I was thinking to take it out and target shoot. And then sell to turn a profit.

Then if you believe you could end up with more money than from a straight sale of the Glock, or the same money and some fun, why not go for it?

A shooter 686 will probably bring $600 these days, and that's a $50 sight. If you don't have dreams about the custom features, don't pay for them.

Its someone's competition gun, so it could be shot a lot and have some issues. I would stay away from it unless I could get it for cheap assuming I will need to do some work to it to get it to work right.

Unless it's free, I'd pass. Collectors won't want it. Shooters already think the 6" 686 is barrel heavy. Somebody will think it's perfect for his needs, but it might take a long time to find that guy.

I can't quit make out the scope, but if it says "BSA" or is some similar Chinese POJ, it adds NO value. The Weaver base is a $7 part, and the missing rear sight would cost around $100 to replace (maybe a little less if S&W EVER gets them back in stock). I'd want to see proof it was sent to JARVIS - an invoice or receipt. Anyone can buy those parts.

Is that just a weight underneath the barrel?

IF thats the case and the weight could be removed and the rear sight is intact and in working order then I would consider it. The grips looks to be pretty nice as well.

... start out really low if you want to make an offer on it. too many unknowns for me

That's what I call a full underlugly. Tell him to keep it. You can do much better.

I think there are cheaper 686's that you could find to turn a profit. There was one locally in my area a 4" -4 or -5 with a 2X Burris scope mounted and the seller was only asking $550. Something like that would be easier to flip than the one you are looking at.

No. That revolver is completely useless to me but I don't know your tastes or reason for wanting it

yes, the G 41 is completely useless to me but I don't know your tastes or reason for wanting it ..... There I fixed it for you ,,:D :D

Looking at the picture, again, I can see the rear sight is still attached. That's good and bad. Good because the rear sight isn't lost. Bad because that means the barrel and possibly the frame's top strap has been drilled and tapped. As Tommy Boy once said, "That's gonna leave a mark."

The weight is also screwed on. Looks like an action job was done, too. Probably a $30.00 red dot. Might make a good shooter. I would not pay over $400.00 if the rest of it is in good shape. If it has a PPC action it might need a mainspring. They are set up for a very light pull.
