Hi guys, brand spankin new here. I have a question for you gentlemen. I purchased my smith and wesson m&p 15-22 off od my girlfriends family friend who lived in north carolina. I received the gun with a collapsible stock and brought it back to new york. I know having a collapsible stock is illegal in NY. I plan on moving to north carolina in the next year or so. I know that having a collapsible stock in Nc is not illegal. I want to go shoot my gun at the local ranges here in Ny but im worries about getting in trouble for having the coll. stock. Does anybody have any good idea on how to temporarily make my collapsible stock a fixed stock? Ive heard of pinning it, but i was wondering what other options i have. Thanks guys.

Use a number 2 self tapping screw and screw it into the stock. Drill a pilot hole first. 1/2" long is fine.

Would that be legal? I would think that since the screw could be removed it would still be illegal. Here in Colorado we will not be allowed certain magazines that "could be converted" to hold more than 15 rounds.

Well ive been to a local shop who had an m&p 15 in stock thats ny compliant, also my buddy has one and its simply pinned inside the stock, i feel like that pin can be easily removed as well. Thanks majorik ill definitely do that. Appreciate it.

Ask your state's firearms department, probably at the state police.

I spoke with a gunsmith about doing my wife's M&P 15-22. The problem she has is that the stock is too long. She needs to have it adjusted. He stated that due to our states law he was unable to touch the stock. He did state that we could simply remove the pin, adjust the stock and re-pin it. As long as the stock is pinned it was perfectly legal.
